Leaning towards the P1S but still feeling the pull of the X1C

As a newbie to the 3D printing world, I don’t think I will be using loads of different types of filaments since I am mainly intending this for personal projects, but I get your point that it is time consuming though some have commented already the automated settings are not necessarily the best unless you manually do it.

I actually had the H2D Combo in my basked on launch day for a good 15 minutes and ready to pay before I bottled it and something just told me in the back of my head to hang on. Now the initial hype is over, I think it I still may be leaning towards the P1S but with the AMS 2 Pro kit.

I actually came across the anycubic Kobra 3 Max that was suggested to me which looks like it has a huge print volume but I just don’t think I have the space right now to house it. I’m still curious about the Qidi 4 Plus but I starting to think I might just want an out of the box experience with minimal fuss and perhaps that’s where the P1S comes into it.

The Plus 4 is a pretty good buy in particular when you want to gave the option to print larger and/or higher temp materials.

Slightly more complex in the initial set-up, but nothing to be afraid of. In fact, I find the increased freedom given by Klipper rather refreshing.

However, it is still missing the promised AMS. Apparently it was shown at TCT Asia, but without a peep as to when it could actually ship… The end of Q1 2025 is approaching fast…

Yes the larger bed size would come in handy for me to print something in full without having to split in half. There is one thing that is niggling me and sort of putting me off at the moment which is the nozzles and I noticed this on their website:

So essentially if I wanted to use different filament types I may end up having half a dozen or more nozzles for different filaments. I haven’t seen this from any of the Bambu products which I presume is possible without issue.

The X1C is a P1S on steroids. I have both and love both for the quality of prints obtained. Yes, the X1C is more calibration automated but the P1S is still a class 3D printer. Also, the price of the X1C is also steroidal! However, if you compare the price of the X1C with the new H2D (40mw laser and all the goodies), the price of the X1C begins to look reasonable. IMHO

I would interpretate this more as a “just in case” disclaimer. I have printed PLA, PETG, PC and PPS with the same nozzle on the Plus 4. While I was initially a bit concerned about printing PLA after PPS, it worked flawlessly.
All single material prints of course (so far).

On my X1, I am frequently using PLA with PETG for supports. It is very rare, but occasionally I do get nozzle/extruder clogs from residue or undesired heat creep. All part of the learning experience though.

Cheers, food for thought but I am going to pull the trigger in the next couple of weeks I think, and the drop in price of the X1C does still look appealing.

One more question, any thoughts on the Creality K2 Plus? I’ve read some bad things but recent reviews suggest the initial launch issues have been ironed out. Worth a punt given the volume size or stay away completely? Sitting around the same price as the X1C so thought I’d potentially throw it in the mix maybe an option.

I own both. The two main things I like the most about X1:

  1. Better quality camera, so you can not only see print fails but also spot quality issues.
  2. AI fail detection. I never woke up to a bed full of spaghetti with X1, happened with P1s a few times.

For the screen you can use an old iPhone with P1s to have the same function as X1. Lidar is pretty useless as its not super accurate and its better to do it manually anyways.

Well I’ve decided I will be placing an order for the P1S + AMS 2 Pro combo by the end of the week. I noticed on the website the combo has recently been added and now saves about £50 over buying the units and accessories individually.

I’ve ruled out the X1C because I am not sure this really has a place anymore now the H2D has arrived and the P1S can do 80% of what the X1C can do. Also the fact that by the time I factor in filament and accessories, I’ll be over the £2k spend with the H2D which in principle isn’t an issue but I am just not sure after the initial honeymoon period whether I will get enough use/value out of the printer and it would annoy me spending that much money on something that could be gathering dust in 6 months time.

However, if all goes well I may upgrade to the H2D in the future but I did read that Creality have already announced their competitor to the H2D with dual nozzles. Might be interesting to see what they come out to offer, especially if the build volume is bigger.

Great choice going with the P1S! It can do everything the X1C can do — 100%, no question. Honestly, it’s like getting a Ferrari for the price of a nice bicycle. Just wait, you’ll see what I mean.

Now, let me warn you — the real expense isn’t the printer. It’s the filament addiction. I started with one roll of black filament and a single project in mind (like a responsible adult). Thought that was all I’d ever need. Fast forward to today: I have a filament army — over 100 rolls, in every color, texture, and glow-in-the-dark variety you can imagine. And ideas? Yeah, they multiplied like rabbits on espresso.

tip: Get Bambu filament. You won’t regret it. It prints like butter.

Now, about the better half… At first, my partner was not impressed. The classic:

“What do you need this for?”
“Another toy?”
“You’ll stop using it in a month.”
“Don’t buy it.”
“Sell it.”

But then I printed a few things for her, her friends, her mom — boom, game changer. Suddenly, she’s coming in like:

“Hey, can you print this in rose gold silk?”
“How about something cute for my friend’s birthday?”
Now I can buy any printer/ filament I want. It’s like Christmas every day.

I started designing custom stuff just for her during the holidays. I’ve had hundreds of people tell me the same thing:
“My wife loved it.”

I stand behind my models 100%, money back guarantee, well they are free…
So yeah — welcome to the club. Your printer isn’t just a machine. It’s a marriage-saver, a creativity-booster, and an accidental side hustle waiting to happen.

Great to hear of your experience! My soon to be wife doesn’t quite understand but when I question her about the hoards of make up and other tat lying around (that gets used once and forgotten about), that apparently is different  She’s more of a designer than I am but I can see her starting to think differently about it now, especially when she is asking about what it can print.

Funny enough, I’m planning on getting the Bambu filament only because of the discounted price when I order the P1S at the same time. My order is going tomorrow but what I am not sure of is the accessories and filament for my first order. I’m thinking:

  • PLA Matte (don’t like shiny stuff) + PETG HF + PETG-CF and maybe PLA Wood.
  • complete hotends 0.8mm nozzle (for fast prototyping) + 0.4mm nozzle both hardened steel & extruder gear combo. Thinking of getting the full set depending on what else I order.
  • Supercool plate + Dual textured plate
  • 6500K White LED Light Strip

Any other suggestions?

Basic PLA, when paired with well-tuned fuzzy skin settings, can look just as stunning as any carbon fiber filament. Just grab a roll of basic black PLA and experiment—you’ll thank me later. I personally use a 0.4 mm nozzle because I’m too lazy to switch, and it works great.

Translucent PETG is seriously cool. Get a roll in your favorite color—even if you’re not sure you’ll use it right away. Play around with print settings and you’ll be amazed at the results. Translucent prints are absolutely mesmerizing.

I also print a lot with ABS-GF (glass fiber), but be warned: if you don’t have proper ventilation or an air purifier, it smells pretty bad. That said, the parts come out super strong and look fantastic.

If you get a dual-texture PEI sheet, you won’t need a fancy cool plate, For PETG prints, you will need a glue stick—Elmer’s works just fine.

And hey, I love my holographic 3D starry effect build plate. Sure, it’s a bit of a gimmick, but it looks absolutely amazing. I don’t care what anyone says—prints come off looking like high-end, factory-quality Rolex parts. The galaxy plate just doesn’t have the same level of grip. Happy Printing!

Hello, nice purchase, how did it go? Thinking of doing the same, is it too loud? Would you go for the x1 instead or no? Its so difficult to decide between both, but i think i will go for the p1s since its way cheap

Placed my order yesterday and took advantage of some discounts for filaments and accessories which I got if I ordered at the same time as the printer. Printer is shipped separately, got notice the printer was shipped same day and today notice of the rest of the order has been shipped.

Courier is DPD and they are usually pretty good in my area so I expect to have it delivered tomorrow or Thursday hopefully. Process smooth so far. Just a point on the filaments, I tried to get colours I wanted that come with the spool option because it was only £3 more than a standard refill option and the spool alone is £10 on the website.

Like I said in an earlier post, I am just not sure the price of the X1C is worth going for now given what the P1S can do and with the new H2D. With all the upgrades, accessories and filaments purchases it’s still less than the cost of the X1C or thereabouts. I think I am happy with my purchase but I guess only you can decide.

I have a QIDI Plus 4 and the QIDI Box was delayed to Q2 (whatever year9. Still there are
problems with the mounting of the print head that wears out or loosens. I got it very cheap and like Klipper, but the Bambu printers (I have aP1S) are actually more convincing.
But good size and firmware is ok.

Yeah, I was rather miffed when Q1 came and went without the promised AMS. The missing AMS is why I usually print on my X1 these days. Not holding my breath on a release anytime soon so l am getting interested in the PicoMMU. Not sure if I am going to have the time to research deeper anytime soon though
