Been printing a lot of petg hf lately without changing any nozzles. I’m using the std .4 hardened.
Switched out to .2mm last night and notices a had a lot of buildup on the nozzle even past the silicone sock.
I think pulling the nozzles and cleaning after a time frame should be regular maintenance.
Anyone else seeing this?
This is pretty typical, especially for PETG. I’ve noticed that since there’s two nozzles right next to each other, the more likely wisps it get caught in-between.
I usually don’t even bother pulling the nozzles to clean the wisps off. Usually just my fingernail if the silicone sock is not hot, or some small pliers if it is. Sometimes a small brush to get into the nooks & crannys.
I pull the sock, heat to 285C, and then use a brass brush to get the nozzle clean.
I’m getting them with my .4 nozzles, nothing terrible but I plan on printing this nozzle cleaning brush so I can clean them without risk of burns or damage to the socks.
It seems that the silicone socks are a true magnet for these webs. I always have them with PTEG, lesser with other filaments. But as natural spider webs they do nothing harmful, so i clean them, when i see them. Thats all.
It’s weird this is an H2D thing. I see people post pics of their machine and the silicon sock has the thinnest webs on it. I print mostly pla and mine has them. They are so thin they are like lint.
It could be a retraction thing.
I noticed it a few times but with a slower retraction or a lower retraction speed the issue is less prominent.
It’s a fan thing, the fan isn’t blowing downwards enough (because they’re quite far away from the print, unlike x1/p1s). Same thing for A1s,
But it is only an optical disturbence. Does not hinder good print results.
What I notice with Petg-HF, is that speed plays a big factor with the spiderwebbing. I say this because with everything correct and running at normal speeds, I get no webs. Kick it into ludicrous mode and the print still looks great, but I get fine webs, that then stick to the silicone cover and ooze protector. It also loves to spiderweb when its not completely dry. Petg-HF will usually need drying when you open it.
I’ve personally been printing with PETG since about 2016 [iirc] and stringing / spiderwebbing has almost always been an issue.
Honestly I’ve always just attributed it to the more ‘oozy’ [is that a word?] nature of petg when molten.
Print heads these days move so fast that it’s more of a wisp than it is a string.
