Line (layer bulge/shift?) in prints

I can’t figure out what is causing this. All of the sudden my prints seem to have this line about the same height all the time regardless of the model (though I don’t always notice it in some models) or filament brand.

I already tried redoing the belt tension with the back screws etc… I replaced the hotend (it was slightly bent), calibrated… recently cleaned and greased the Z screws.

These things do not appear to have resolved the issue.

What could be causing this. I’m printing another benchy right now with a different brand filament and the issue is also present on this one.

Hi, I also just got layer shift like artefacts all of a sudden. Very puzzled. Feels firmware/software- ish.

I tried raising the temperature just now and that makes no difference either… not sure why this line is happening.

Just to be sure I tightened the back screws again to adjust the belt tension then ran the self-test.

Then I ran a flow calibration… trying a benchy again. But so far, no matter what I have tried, the problem persists.

Update: the benchy has the same line still.

The rest of the print looks fantastic. I’m stumped and can’t figure out what’s going on. I did have a couple of firmware upgrades recently… hope someone can help

I see no evidence of warping or issues sticking to the build plate.

I don’t know if belt tension has anything to do with your print problem, but just to be clear, tightening the screws does not change the belt tension. The belt tension is determined by springs. Loosening the screws allows movement of the adjustable pulleys, gentle manual movement of the print head overcomes static friction in the pulley mounts so that the spring can apply the correct tension and then tightening the screws clamps the movable pulleys in place so the tension does not change while printing.

Thanks for the clarification. I guess I’m just running out of things to try.

@colin.small I think I just found my issue, the small bolts securing the hot end had rattled loose (this is actually second time this week  ) maybe worth a check if you haven’t already.

I just replaced my hot end and I’m sure the screws are tight. The problem existed for me before I replaced the hot end

I tried orca slicer to see if there was a slicing issue but it still prints this line regardless. So frustrating.

Have you tried printing in silent mode? That will tell you if it’s a speed issue.

I may have found my issue. I still am testing now.

I’m getting a bulg line printing with ASA, I think min is happening with higher layer times.

So, I have a couple of things going on I think.

One is the benchy hull line issue that I referenced. That seems to not be the fault of the printer at all.

The second issue seems to be related to the specific model I am printing, so I’m not sure how to resolve that. But other models done seem to have the issue.
