Lines only in certain spots

Does anyone know what is causing these lines to show up? Throughout the print you can see it, but it doesn’t show them in the slicer. I’m using the H2C with .2 layer height.

Do your prints usually have a nicer top layer? If so, Did you dry and calibrate the filament profile? If your top layer always looks like this, even after doing the above things and there’s no warping, you can help it by mastering the art of ironing settings or print it face down on a glossy smooth plate. Unless your first layer is also not so great.

It seems like every time I import from Makerworld the prints do good with a nice finish. When I use my own design it ends up like this for some reason. Filament is dried. The lines feel smooth when touching, no visible warping. It looks like the lines are only where it stops infill and goes to another area and then comes back to finish.

Have you tracked the top layer in the Bambu Studio preview tab?

  • Slice your model
  • Look on the right of the screen
  • Notice the layers bar, moving this up and down takes you through the layers needed to print your model
  • However, you need to use the bar at the bottom which shows you the travel and extrusion within the selected layer of the right layers bar.
  • Make sure you are at the top most layer (right bar)
  • Slide the layer bar (bottom) leftward slowly
  • This will show you where the head will move and if appropriate extruding rather than travelling

Having reviewed this are your travel lines similar to the pattern you see printed?

The slicer has to calculate the best travel path to obtain the best strength to visual quality ratio it can. Areas of holes (square, circle or in between usually cause a change in direction. This can cause differences in when and how cooling affects extrusion plus, moving away and returning later can cause slight imperfections that wouldn’t have occurred if done at the same time.

If this troubles you, given it is normal, take a look at ironing.

Thank you for this information. The travel lines perfectly line up with the lines left on the object. It shows the head moving in one area, then moving to another area before it’s finished, then coming back to the previous area to finish. Is ironing the only solution to this?

The lines appear due to objects (in this case holes) in the path. If the travel was a simple rectangle p, they would nite exist.

To provide you with the most accurate answer, you have two choices;

  1. Remove the obstacles (usually not possible)
  2. Ironing

Sometimes I with I could tell the slicer to be smarter (according to me).
