Hello,
I have problem with lithophanes. Im using X1C with 0,4 nozzle. First prints are perfect, but actual ones have little gaps. I bought new nozzle but problem still occures. 0,2mm nozzle works perfect but is to slow.
Anyone know what may be problem ?
only thing i can think of is you are using some percentage of infill (WHICH INFILL HAS ZERO PURPOSE IN LITHOPHANES EVEN AT 100%) it can deviate the hotend from its natural path to crossover. 999 Walls is the only proper way to do lithophanes(regardless of the stubborn people that claim 100% infill is the same) Its not!!
All walls lets the hotend flow in a natural path… round and round with no need to deviate from the path, a nice smooth transition all the way through.
This being said, my theory is you used infill and with infill being used it makes seams which if set at random will put these little “tits” all over the print. with all walls (999 walls) you get no seam, it runs similar to “vase mode” a smooth nonstop flow of filament… no stopping means no seams.
My only other thought is that those tiny areas may be too thin, but i think my first theory is more practical.
I do tons of litho lampshades
Interesting. When I did my first few lithophanes I used the default settings from the litho maker I was using. It was 15% gyro infill or something like that and I had “shadow banding” across the print. These were mono color printed on edge. I figured out pretty quick that the bands were associated with the axis of were the infill x’s were (the prints had a built in frame around them). When I switched to 100% infill they went away. I will have to give your 999 walls a shot, something in my limited experience I have not needed to deal with before.
I have never had holes in my prints but I was also wondering about the thinness in the area of the holes, they seem to be in the brightest areas (but that could just be my perception from the photos). Also about print speed. I tend to print in the quietest/slowest mode. I’m on a P1S so there could be some differences there.
i run lithophanes at standard speed no problems, but yeah give the all walls a try I would recommend them from here on out.
Since lithos are designed to see the light through them, any imperfections will shine through, so if you are using infill even at 100 percent it is not 100% solid there could be small voids or blobs from the attempts to crossover to create “infill” when it deviates from the natural wall paths.
I would suggest trying itslitho or lithomaker sites there you can fine tune your settings like thicknesses , but most of the time their default settings work great
thank you all for your feedback. I printed some litophanes with 999 walls, and 0% infil. It works almost great. SOmetimes I get few gaps.
Its acceptable but result of 0,2 nozzle is perfect.
