Little pock (zits?) marks only on part of the object - what gives?

I have been trying to figure out why the pressure advance calibration tower has some blemishes on only part of the test object.

I have done flow rate tests and max flowrate and the filament has been dried.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as to how to eliminate this.

  • Printer Model: X1C
  • Nozzle size: 0.6mm
  • Slicer used: Bambu Studio v.2.2.1.60
  • Filament material and brand: Deeplee Rapid PLA+ Black
  • Nozzle and bed temperature: 220/55
  • Print Speed: 120mm/s

Do you have your seams set to “random”?

No. For this calibration, I usually use Aligned, but sometimes use Back. In these photos, I believe it was Back.

Try drying the filament.

I should have mentioned that the filament was dried for 11 hours at 50C. I will dry it again and see if that helps.

I changed to this new Bambu Lab filament, dried it, but it did not really do anything. The pockmarks persist in the same places, but the pattern is a bit different.

Could this be a partial clog?

Pocks like this usually indicate moisture in the filament. The moisture creates air bubbles because of the heating in the hotend which generates these pocks. In some cases you can even hear the bubbling during Extrusion. I would try to further dry the filament. It wouldn’t hurt to also check and clean the extruder to make sure everything is good there.

Make a cube 150x150mm and 0.4mm high in Bambu Studio and print it at 0.2 layer height…

I thought the same thing, so I dried it again for 11 hours at 50C. And I also wondered why these marks would only be in these two locations each time I print this object instead of all over and with 2 different filaments, one Bambu, one not.

The extruder was checked and cleaned a few days ago when I had a clog in the 0.4mm nozzle and extruder.

This only started to happen after I switched to the 0.6mm nozzle.

I guess I will continue drying it.

Please also let us know what drying method you are using.

Some filament dryers are not designed to vent moisture outside the enclosure. As a result, the filament may not dry properly because the humidity remains trapped inside.

To improve the drying process, it’s best to occasionally open the dryer lid to release the built-up moisture or leave a small gap that allows the moisture to escape while drying.

As always, there’s also a chance that the quality of the filament is less than ideal, and requires different settings.

I am using the Eibos Polyphemus. There is a little exhaust vent at the top.

I put the filament in for a 3rd time, but only for about 6 hours at 50C this time.

Edit: Tried with brand new PLA roll which has been dried at 50C for about 18 hours over a 2-day period.

The area of the little holes/pockmarks is getting smaller, but still not enough for me. Maybe I should print something else and see how it looks.

All of this started when I installed the 0.6mm nozzle, which I have barely used.

I’ve been having the same issue after swapping to a 0.6mm nozzle. I have had partial success with increasing the temperature 5 degrees over what I’d print it as with a 0.4mm nozzle, but I don’t think that’s the actual cause.

I have had this issue with every single filament (both ones sitting around for months and fresh out of the packaging) I’ve used, so I don’t think it is a wet filament issue. My suspicion is that the X1C’s auto-calibration doesn’t work as well for the 0.6 nozzle, but I haven’t actually done any testing on that yet.

If I may ask another question, I am using the 0.6mm nozzle, so should I create the cube with it being 0.6mm high with 0.3mm height?

Have you stopped using the 0.6mm nozzle or reduced the number of its uses?

I love the 0.6mm, or rather, the idea of it because, for me, it cuts down the printing time by 20% or more.

This is the second period of time with this nozzle in use and the first time, it was flawless. I calibrated multiple rolls of filament with it and all went well.

I am starting to wonder if it is this very inexpensive filament, Deeplee. I will try your increase in heat, but I have a big ol’ clog to eliminate first.

@Retrospirit, thank you for your response. The questions that come up with this being moisture-related are that (1) I dried the filament for a total of 18 hours at 50C over a 2-day period; (2) moist filament was my first thought, but I thought that the pockmarks would be all over the print.

Now that I have a clog, I will do as you stated and check and clean the extruder.

0.2mm height is OK.

If the holes are there, try printing again with a 50% speed.

Well, I am of the opinion that the calibration tools ported from Orca into Bambu Studio are not quite right. This is the 2nd time I have used an Orca calibration tool from within Bambu Studio that had a flaw. The previous was Max Flow Rate and Bambu stated it was aware of the flaw.

I printed the flat cube as you suggested and it came out perfect.

I also exported the g-code from Orca’s PA calibration tower and ran it through Bambu Connect and there were no pockmarks and the quality of the print overall was a bit better.

Next, I re-ran the PA calibration tower from Studio and it had fewer pockmarks, but they were still there at the same location as before.

My plan is to log this as a bug with Bambu.

I have this problem on my P1P and X1C. Both got this problem, after installing 0.6 Nozzle. Looks like Moisture, but it isn’t. I’ve tested this expensively. I am going back to 0.4 on them. Did you find a Solution?

My solution was to not use the Orca calibration tools which had recently been added to and were accessed from within Bambu Studio.

I have not done much printing with non-calibrated filament since September 2025, so I have not had the need to calibrate anything, so I have not used the aforementioned calibration tools.
