Living with multiple AMS's

I run two AMS2 Pro units for my BL P2S printer. It’s great!

I discovered this morning that a 2 color print stopped before it started printing because I was drying in my A. AMS (white spool), and wanting to do a color (Yellow) from my B. AMS

Since A. AMS was drying. it wouldn’t start the print because the printer won’t print if drying is on. So I simply stopped the drying, and forged ahead.

This got me to thinking… if I was to have the colors (Yellow and White) in the same AMS, I should be able to dry in A. while printing from B. Sounds right, eh?

Haven’t interrupted my print job to test my theory. But I plan to replicate the job in a different color. And at that time I will rearrange my spools to try drying in A. while printing from B.

And that works. I’m printing batch 2 in red and white from my idle AMS A., while AMS B. is now drying some spools.. Ahh, nirvana!

Are you using the external power supplies for your AMS 2 units?

Oh yes. I didn’t want to strain my printer. Actually, I got a power brick for my original AMS2 before I ever got the second one.

So each has it’s own 24V supply. Do you know if there is a setting that could bypass that feature? (The can’t print if drying filament “Feature”)

It depends on the printer, the firmware, the setup and the version of Bambu Studio:

“You can now dry filament while printing, but the drying temperature will be lowered during printing.”
