Would Bambu/MakerSupply consider selling longer (15 or 20cm) 3-pin SH1.0 cables to allow for more remote LED hub placement? Alternatively a 3-pin SH1.0 equivalent to the 2-pin SH1.0 connector adapter board (XA013)?
Is signal integrity the reason for the current 10cm length?
The reason why I ask is that I’m designing a Cyberbrick model that is on the upper end of the scale range. For now I’m going to be unable to implement forward facing lights since all the electronics need to be in the rear, in order to keep the front area clear for other mechanisms.
According to the WS2812b datasheet the LED is able to be placed up to 3M from it’s signal source. But you also have to factor up to 48mA per LED so that will limit cable length.
Outside of MakerSupply you can buy precrimped SH1.0 wires and plugs in quite few length. Most of typical electronics components suppliers will have JST SH precrimped wires available. SH1.0 is also quite popular in drones - check local drone / FPV. As for Board - I may be working on getting some custom cyberbrick boards made. Hub/extender board could be added
I added the Qwiic/StemmaQT connector on the display shield I have designed for CyberBrick… it’s nice that it’s the same type of connector, just the 4 pin version. I have also bought pre-crimped wires and made my own for both Qwiic and longer ones for CyberBrick.
When you say “female” are you then talking about a part that has pins similar to the ones on the CyberBrick PCBs, but for cable mounting? I was not aware that JST made those, they are not in their datasheet for the SH1.0.
Would you mind sharing a link or maybe a photo? I’m a bit curious.
And yes, these are pretty small, especially if you want to crimp these yourself and don’t have the exact right tool for them.
Yes, that’s it. Here is the link and a pic, they also make the 2 pin version and I got those for my motors. I tend to use whatever motor is available and have a lot of TT motors without cables.
Ah, OK, so the mating connectors are the PCB mount ones.
Soldering those to cables will likely be a bit annoying and fail easily. The best way to make extenders would probably be to make small PCBs with 2 of the connectors on and then you can extend by alternating between cable and PCB.
I found just the single wires with the contacts crimped in both ends and then the housings separate, so that I can make either 2, 3 or 4 pin versions.
