I’m pretty much allergic to everything and plan on starting down the path of 3d printing as a hobby. As a mechanical engineer, I have no doubt I’ll love it, as I love building things and all my friends keep telling me I should have done this 10 years ago.
I have a nice detached garage with an office I can put it in. I want to build an fully vented enclosure that includes intakes and exhaust. My thinking is H2C with combo when it comes out. I’ve been experimenting with AI to get a picture of what I want, but I think the only thing that I really need to know is the interior dimensions of the area the printer will be in. I’m planning on a slider so I don’t think I’ll need any special access to the back since I want the slider to pull all the way out.
I’d love suggestions on “comfortable” dimentions to make the inside area so I don’t have to make this thing twice. Here are some images I created. It’s hard to get AI to do what you want so these are pretty rough.
The only things I can think of are (I’m thinking of my H2Ds not H2C and assume most things are the same or very similar):
On the left side, you might want to attach the external spool holder which would increase the width.
I don’t know if the H2C can be upgraded (or already comes with) the laser. On the H2D, the emergency button can only be placed in one spot on the right so you would need enough room to get a hand in to press the button on the right side. Although I’m pretty sure it detects the button using a simple magnet so it could be fooled and the button placed somewhere else.
For external venting out the back, additional space on the rear of course. There’s plenty of models already available, you could likey get the dimensions easily for one that matches your setup and add that on to the overall dimensions.
AMS unit on top will increase the height, account for the opening of the unit too and that the lid will go behind slightly too when rotated opened.
Account for the poop chute, maybe a bin in the bottom cabinet with a 3d printed poop chute, I guess you’d need to mark on the sliding platform where to place the printer so the chute lines up correctly with a hole cut in the sliding base?
As you have a sealed cabinet you could probably just attach extraction to the whole cabinet rather than the printer itself which would probably help avoid accidently cooling the printer bed and chamber when forcefully sucking air out of the printer.
A lot of this is obvious (especially to a mechanical engineer ) but worth just saying anyway, I’ve forgotten simple things in the past because they shouldn’t need to even be said and it’s frustrating messing it up! Enjoy!
