bug-report
I was running Beta, today it prompted me to update to V2. STEP file import never completes. It’s just locked up, let it go for 20 min and never accomplished the task. Had to kill BambuStudio.
New project, and import STEP also fails in V2. Little part, spinning for 10min, finally had to kill BambuStudio. Looks like opening STEP files in V2 is completely dead.
Opened a file that had worked fine with one of the previous Beta versions, now that doesn’t work either. IDK the problem, but only way to get a step file to import is to do it from scratch, using neither reload from disk nor replace with STL will work anymore.
Software BROKEN!
Why is Bambu messing around with a STEP file anyway, just leave the darn thing alone, don’t try to muck around with it and import the darn thing!
What version of Bambu studio are you on? They just pushed out an update to fix many bugs. Version 2.0.1.50 is the current release so you may want to update.
I can say for me at least, I do not have these problems. I only export my models in STEP and I’ve not had any issues importing these with any of the version 2.x releases.
I’m on 2.0.1.50. STEP w/ minimum (screwing around) settings will not load in any amount of time I’m willing to wait for it (let’s call that 15 min for a small part.)
Using reload or replace w/ stl do not work either.
The whole ‘let’s F&^% around with someone’s STEP file’ process seems misguided and wrong. If I wanted to reprocess a Step file in a lower resolution I’d have done that to start with. Bambu should not mess around with these files at all or at the very least give us an option to turn this garbage off.
I am referring to the process screen where BL wants to change the resolution of the STEP file. I realize they have to be ‘processed’ but all these problems with STEP file imports started with the dialog where BL wants to mess around with the resolution of the STEP file. If they just gave us an option to turn that nonsense off and not mess around with the file I think it would go a lot better and faster.
So rather than change the resolution to something else (no matter what, it’s going to change something as there’s no option to leave it as is, leave the darn thing alone and import it.
I’ve loaded and sliced several .step files (created in Fusion) with no problems, using four different slicers. I currently have Studio 1.10.2.76 and OrcaSlicer installed on my PC, and also portable versions of Studio 1.9.7.52 and 2.0.1.50.
Orca and Studio 1.9 (without import options) create meshes with slightly fewer triangles than the default import settings in Studio 1.10 or 2.0. The models all import properly even if I do change the import resolution.
The Mac version of Studio 1.10 appears to have had occasional trouble with .step imports, but that was supposed to have been fixed for 2.0. If it has not, it would be best to report the issue as a bug on Github, where the developers will actually see the report. Include your operating system version and your troublesome .step file in the requested .zip file.
Is the step file import parameters prompt actually come up for you? Have you tried checking the “Don’t show again” checkbox to see if that stops the import delay?
That is not possible, the STEP must be converted to a mesh before it can be sliced.
Studio is not changing the STEP, it is converting it to a usable mesh, just like any other slicer. They must all assume some default settings for how the conversion is done. Studio is just giving you some additional (optional) control. Just click OK if the default values shown are acceptable. If you always want the defaults, click the “Don’t show again” box.
The STEP will still be converted to a mesh, just as it was in older Studio versions.
If the conversion is causing unreasonable delays, there may be a problem with your model, your computer, or it may be a true bug that no one has reported. Simply having a choice of conversion factors is not the issue and ranting about it here will not get it fixed.
I’d skipped the notification of the 2.0 update for a while, but decided to run the update yesterday (on X1C), and this build definitely has some bugs. My issue was in trying to import a .3mf file from Makerworld, one that I had no problems with loading in the previous version, but with the 2.00.01.50 version it failed with an error that it could properly read the file. I tried opening the .3mf file in notepad++ and it couldn’t open the file, which caused me to notice that the title of the file was in Chinese, when it should be in English. So there is definitely something a serious problem with the import function in the latest build, and of course rolling back to the previous version fixed the problem (Note: using a new download of the .3mf file from Makerworld, and not the one Converted to Chinese in 2.0 version)
Windows Bambu studio 2.00.01.50 Failed with a configuration file error at the very end of download. I’ve tried loading this bad release 5 times. I attempted to print anyway and the program shuts down after I select print. Please help. It used to work. Are they issuing a fix?
I have the same issue with 2.0.1.50 - trying to import a STEP file with separate bodies in it causes it to be imported as a single body. What a pain in the butt - I’m rolling back also.
A Fusion .step file with two bodies imports into Studio as a single body in all versions back to at least 1.08.04.51 - before Studio introduced the conversion controls.
As @JonRaymond suggested, splitting to objects works.
Or use OrcaSlicer, which does recognize that there are two bodies in the file.
I found a solution for this as I was having similar problems.
I adjusted the angulation and linear deflection up to have more tolerances.
And waited for the triangulation count … if it was over 700,000 it would just keep calculating ----- and not produce a model.
I’d suggest bumping these up on the scale … and wait for the triangulation count … then press ok.
3mf and stl files had way less model precision and I was making smooth curved parts … so needed stp file precision.
