Trying to print a card holder and twice I have had this issue of the lower layer not sticking to the rest of the model. It’s Prusa filament PLA. I have a X-1 Carbon. Any suggestions on changing settings to make it stick better? I don’t need it to be quick if slowing down would help it stick. Thanks!

More information would be helpful:
- Is this a model from MakerWorld? If so, please provide a link.
- What have you tried so far?
- Printer plate cleaned with regular soap?
- Have you dried the filament, or at least tested a different one?
- What settings do you use? The default settings, have you changed anything, or the settings that came with the model?
If the filament doesn’t stick to the print plate or to the rest of the model, it’s rarely due to settings. The main reason is a dirty plate or bad filament. In rare cases, it could be a clogged nozzle or something similar, but we’re not there yet - need more information first.
But in short: There isn’t enough information here to provide specific help, so please provide more details first.

Thanks for the reply! You can probably tell I am a complete novice with this thing.
So I got the model from Printables:
I was able to get it to work well with a different PLA (one from Bambu Lab) so it may just be the filament. I have the ABS thing so it has been sitting in that, does that dry it? I definitely used the standard settings, not knowledgable enough to know how to play around with them. I try to regularly clean the plate - sometimes with soap/water, sometimes with isopropyl.
I am trying to print it one more time on “silent” mode (so slower speed) so we shall see if that solves anything.
If you have the AMS Pro that has a built-in dryer. The regular AMS does not.
Otherwise you need a dedicated filament dryer. Or you can set the bed to 55° lay the spool on it, cover it with half of a filament box and let it sit for 6 hrs.

The photo of your print and the 3D model don’t look very alike. I can’t tell which part you’re holding there. The first layer is really just a big huge square. Your photo doesn’t look like a square at all.
Does it look like this in your Bambu slicer?
That’s what it looks like on my slicer. The slowe le speed didn’t solve it. It must be the filament because I have no issue with it with other filaments. Here are a few more pics:
Dry it out and maybe raise the temp of the nozzle.
You should calibrate your filament*. You could also look it up on 3dfilamentprofiles.com to see if there’s anything useful noted on there.
*Much of that guide will work in Bambu Studio, but the guide there is nicely laid out and in a good order.
Very important information. In that case, adjusting the settings probably won’t probably help either.
If you cut a piece of filament off your spool and bend it, does it break? Does it seem brittle? PLA straight from the spool should not break and should be easy to bend - even bending to an extreme degree.
If PLA is left lying around opend in a room for too long - say, for months - it can become brittle. You can definitely give it a try without much hassle and let us know if that’s the case.
I’m guessing - and this is just a guess - that your filament has gone beyond being “moist” and is now just brittle. I could be wrong, though - just test it to see if it breaks right off the spool.
