I’ve been trying out the E3D Diamondback nozzle on my X1C. And at the moment, I’m testing with some Overture PLA (black). With the Obxidian, I had been using 29 mm3/s with no problems. (I think I could go higher, actually.) But with the Diamondback, I’ve been getting extrusion problems.
I tried suggestions I found in forums to lower temperature and lower the flow ratio, but those really didn’t help. (And yes, the I did dry the filament.) It kinda looks like over-extrusion, but I think the filament is being pulled apart and isn’t fully sticking to the layer below.
It wasn’t until I lowered the max flow rate to 20 mm3/s that the problem entire went away.
Can anyone provide some insight into why I would have to slow down the volumetric rate to work with what’s supposed to be a faster nozzle?

E3D explicitly explains on their shop page that the Diamondback is not a highflow nozzle. They only claim abrasion resistance and thermal conductivity improvements. Of course, the latter may slightly increase max flow.
The ObXidian on the other hand splits the heating chamber into three, giving a higher internal surface area and hence an increased flow.

That’s interesting. I remember it being originally touted as high flow because of the higher thermal conductivity of diamond. They must have altered the wording on their page once people started noticing it wasn’t a speed improvement over Obxidian.

I am not sure if it was due to advertising or inflated expectations.
There were (and to some extend still are) many complaints about Bambu printers not always delivering a perfect, care.free performance. That expectation was very much raised in particular by the various YouTubers. In their own advertising, Bambu was always clear in its advertising on having come a long way on the road to that, but that there is still some way to go. So unfortunately, expectations were quickly overtaking advertisement claims.
It may have been a similar story with the Diamondback. I myself am very happy with my ObXidian.
