Fair enough
Could tie it into a monthly project or two
Every month you get
- a roll of filament (their choice)
- Some maker supply parts
- 1-3 highlighted projects (either Bambu designed, creator program, or just a highlighted community model they choose) that use the parts provided
- Posting a make of the highlighted projects gives 20/20/10 mw points (outside of the current 50 from makes)
- slight discount compared to buying parts separately, plus some extra points
And Iâm sure they could find some other benefit for things like, loyalty rewards after 3 months, or just further discounts for paying for 3/6/12 months in one go
My input anyway
Another possible expansion on this I thought of could be having a subscriber exclusive contest.
Thatâs exactly right! Probably keeping it much simpler at the start of the program. I know Mark Rober has teams of people that put a ton of time into making their subscription boxes and documentation ready for the public. Perhaps this program stays on the simpler side, just grouping makerâs supply components and listing models that can work with the kit of parts, but I could totally see a future where there is a focus on real STEM activities with documentation.
@jaayjeee - the list you provided are all great suggestions. Perhaps including the roll of filament could be in the next tier up to ensure there is a reasonable entry-level subscription model.
Count me in! I would subscribe in order to build an inventory of âstuffâ needed to complete models I find on MakerWorld and elsewhere. I really like the idea of having an inventory of parts (especially springs) at hand to complete models, even if I donât have an immediate use for a particular item at that particular time (I guess thatâs the âpackratâ side of me coming out). Often times, the shipping charge to order just one or two small things offsets the price enough be discouraging.
Shameless self promo for my pen-spring button fidget
Thank you for your suggestion. The idea of subscription boxes you mentioned is excellent. We are also considering offering a more diverse range of combination sets, starting by enriching the variety of âboxesâ. Additionally, we will select models into MakerWorld collections which are based on the kits used. This will not only provide inspiration for makers to design their own projects but also showcase the versatility and creativity that can be achieved with our kits.
We are eager to hear more feedback from other makers like you. Letâs continue to collaborate and make the community even more exciting!
Cheers!
@Makers_Supply Any chance you could make a ZH1.5 to PH2.0 wire? I love the Rechargeable Power Kit but right now the only thing it can power is the motor that is included in the kit. If there was a ZH1.5 to PH 2.0 wire we would be able to use the Power Distribution Board with the power kit, which would open up a lot more design possibilities.
EDIT: Something like this.
Love this so hard and yes plesae, Literally same situation - bought our nephew an A1 Mini for Christmas (its in his grandparents closet until then lol) when he visited us he went gaga wanting to know about our Bambu Lab printer, with some gentle oversight he printed great build your own lightsaber from MW while he was here visiting last, would love to get him something like this. It would be sweet to get a ready-made project, plus an optional roll of filament or maybe even small like 500g spools
Thank you for your suggestion. We currently donât have a ZH1.5 to PH2.0 wire. However, we are preparing to have a ZH1.5 to SH1.0 wire very soon.
@Makers_Supply What about a soldering iron in the âtools & othersâ sub-section in Makers Supply?
Edit: What if we also had remote controllers & rc boards for motors? This would allow us to control Makers Supply motors over long distances using remotes.
If more complex components like microcontrollers or radio control parts are to be added, Bambu would be wise to allow suggestions and voting instead of unilaterally adding parts that people may not want to use.
Well, there is a form for suggestions
I feel like, if someone is buying motors and other electronics from Makers Supply, they are probably already interested in things like microcontrollers & radio controllers, and remote controlled motors are just more convenient.
Those likely get stored in the round file. Personally I donât care what they put in Makers Supply. I already have my go to sources and Iâd bet most who are using them do the same. Instead of Bambu dragging us to the parts they want, my guess in the microcontroller world is if they pick the âwrongâ parts they could end up sitting on inventory a while.
I donât think weâre talking about the same thing? People already interested in microcontrollers probably have their own sources and parts all sorted out.
True, but if you buy everything you need for one project from Makers Supply, you are able to get everything on the same day because it was shipped together, and when posting designs on MakerWorld, it is easier to list the needed components in the BOM if they are all bought from Makers Supply. Plus, if you are buying parts you need from different sites, you likely wonât get free shipping for everything because on most sites, you need to spend $50+ for free shipping. For example, if you needed $52 worth of parts for a project and you bought $17 worth of parts from Makers Supply you will pay $7 for shipping, and you bought another $20 from some random site you would likely have to pay for shipping on that site too, and then if you spent another $15 on a different site you would also likely have to pay for shipping, that would likely add about $20 to your order and you probably wonât get everything on the same day. But if you could just buy everything you needed from Makers Supply, you would get free shipping and you would get everything on the same day. So I get what you are saying, but it would just be cheaper and more convenient if everything you needed was available on Makers Supply.
Which is why I suggested MW ask the community before picking microcontrollers.
No idea if they will include microcontrollers. Learning how to even get the right software load setup properly could make moisture problems a walk in the park, let alone teaching people how to modify and expand programs. Most projects that use micros would include code but just getting that transferred and running could be beyond some or even many.
Which brings me back to saying MW would do well to get input from the community before picking micros for Supply. I can only speak for myself but I doubt Iâd ever put the effort in to come up to speed on some different microcontrollers than I already use. Iâll just keep using them unless anything MW sources provides real value and features.
I really havenât seen many microcontroller projects here. Iâm working on some but totally get the low adoption when there are custom parts. I did that with a couple of clocks that need a clock mechanism and a glass watch glass. The reality is that any custom parts - even sourced from MW - will block a lot of prints.
Or just get a small-ish supply of a whole bunch. Whatever sells well gets restocked in higher volumes. Whatever sells slower gets reordered in smaller quantities.
Really, all iâm asking for is a board that can be connected to a power supply and the motor, which would have an antenna which would receive signals from a remote sold with the board, and the remote would really just be a wireless potentiometer
