It “broke” a few days ago, looks like it’s related to the latest changes. Seems that not only is the points to downloads ratio was reduced by more than half but also approx 60% of downloads are not counted at all. I tested it, the same model on another portal gets 4 times more downloads at the same time, and I’m sure it’s not only my case… I checked with my friends who use maker words and they have the same experience.
Last 4 models that I uploaded in the last few days got a total of 8 downloads. That is very demotivating, everything seems to turn in the wrong direction.
They have introduced the ability to download without being logged in, so downloads are not counted, I also noticed the same thing, today for me only one download
They also do not count logged-in account downloads. I have tested it today and something is really wrong. Printables works just fine by the way just saying.
MakerWorld has reduced the earning power for models over 1K downloads by 70% (0.3x multiplier).
So before you used to get 10 points for 10 downloads.
Now you only get 3 points for 10 downloads.
This is targeted directly at popular models as a way to suppress them from earning, which ultimately will turn away quality designers who have been incentivized in the past to help MakerWorld become what it is today.
Meh, let them leave if they want. I’ll still be here fungineering stuff like this Iron Man repulsor flashlight I made using the LED Lamp Kit 001 and a power bank. It’s turned on and off by a simple flick of the wrist. I have a few minor tweaks to make, but I should have it uploaded tomorrow.
Obviously anonymous downloads cannot count. Otherwise, manipulating them would be effortless. You can verify this yourself: Open your browser in incognito mode (Ctrl+Shift+N in Chrome), download a random model with few or no previous downloads. Then, refresh the page. Voilà, the count remains unchanged.
Same happened even when logged in,for me in 50-60% cases. I just tried to download some other ppl models and check if it counts or not. Seems that freshly uploaded modes are more affected.
They’ve introduced a system to curtail the impact of spam or bulk downloads by imposing a limit on the number of downloads that are counted. From my own and other users’ experimentation, it seems that this limit is set at 5 downloads within a 24-hour period. Any downloads beyond this threshold do not register.
But that is a terrible idea, if you don’t want to count unlogged downloads than you can’t allow to people who are not signed in to download! otherwise, everyone will just download and we receive nothing in return!
Yeah, but that is not all, there is also limit for downloads per logged users, and it’s different depending how fresh is model, top is 5… new models have a limit 1 per 24h. So uploading anything stop makes any sense practically, that is why my latest 4 models get 8 downloads total in 2 days. They have much much much more but only 8 was counted.
I’m considering setting all my models as private and upload them somewhere else.
Same here. The notion of tracking downloads, while at the same time not counting all downloads is just wild lol.
But I guess it’s in line with not allowing a creator to remix their own model if the original’s license doesn’t allow remixes.
Or sending out email about a 20% discount ‘Limited Time Offer’ and, when asked, not knowing when the offer expires.
I’m starting to feel like the Bambu biome is just crazyland.
Uhl in that case I read it somewhere else I’m tracking many threads about this not only here and won’t be able to recall where it was exactly right now
We should at the very least get accurate data on our uploads. I don’t know another site like this that allows downloads without logins…nerfing the points is one thing, not give us the actual data on our models is just so wrong…
