Makerworld Duplicate Takedown, Misleading

Today I have had a model removed due to it been a duplicate and now my points is -25 due to been “fined” for it.
If I had uploaded the model twice on purpose I understand 100%… but the thing is, I wanted to enter a model into the Halloween contest, I followed the steps Makerworld said by pressing choose model, but it would NEVER let me select a model that I have already uploaded so it asked me to upload a model to the contest which I did not thinking it would go to my uploads (I actually never checked).
Contest is over and its been removed as a dupe, fine.

What I can’t understand is, why did Makerworld themselves make me re upload the model to enter the comp if they knew it was going to create a dupe, seems like it’s a method to remove peoples points which in long run stops them having to payout. There was no way I was deleting the already uploaded model as it had likes/downloads/prints to start all over.

Makerworld, allow people to enter competitions using an already uploaded model, once it has been entered the model in the comp, the likes etc are removed for the comp and start fresh, but the original model upload isn’t affected nor do the likes etc count to the comp and vice versa.

I haven’t uploaded many models, but this has made me want to remove them all and not bother uploading anymore.

In order to enter a model into a contest it must meet the criteria.

One of those is models can’t be included if they existed (already uploaded to MakerWorld) prior to the start of a contest.

It is this which was most likely stopping you from entering.

It does say this clearly in the rules of the contests.

I will and do complain about the dumb and ignorant things MW does, but, in this case, rules are clearly defined.

I have entered a few contests, been lucky enough to gain prizes in a couple. One thing I have never experienced though is a button or message that tells me or implores me or even hints at, adding a duplicate model is the only way to enter a contest.

Adding duplicate models is banned outside of contests.

I suggest you chalk this up to experience. It isn’t nice that you appear to have been confused, but, reading the rules first would have helped. At least they publish those rules.

Thanks for your reply.

I agree with you 100%, downside is im autistic and have difficulty understanding wording correctly, specially when it comes to rules etc as they are worded in a way that makes my brain halt.
From my point of view I thought Makerworld was bugging out by not letting me select the model (select model was the wording if I remember, so I thought it meant choose a model I had uploaded) as because it kept taking me to a upload landing page, I presumed thats what I had to do, so… I uploaded it again thinking it would go to the comp section.

Least I know now, but, from today no more uploads from me, I don’t want to make any more errors and to be honest its put me off Makerworld a little, I know most of its my part, but it is what is I guess.

Ditto. My default is to get angry when I believe I have been tricked.

I had a few hundred points removed the other day due to the disastrous rollout of this Exclusive program they have screwed up.

But, if you stop because something went wrong, you will never move forwards.

Learn from it and keep uploading. Trust me I know. I uploaded around 400 models before I found one that people liked and I was good at designing that type.

One of those models has generated 15,000+ downloads and earned me a lot of points. I have created many others in the same style that have earned me tens of thousands of points.

Had o of given up, I wouldn’t have figured out I have a knack for those models.

Do not let your future success be stopped by a momentary bump in the road.
