I hope everyone’s sitting down… I’m about to blow everyone’s mind and possibly kick off the biggest debate in recent history. We all feel like we have a grip on the Exclusive Program rules right? What if I told you that you can upload someone elses model from another site and if it has the “Public Domain” license that’s perfectly ok to be an “exclusive” model? Read this and prepare to clutch your pearls!
Before you say it was an errant keystoke… I had several rejected for that same reason. Now I’m being a little silly with this thread because it has to be a mistake, right? RIGHT???
Just another example of MakerWorld not following their own rules.
The whole fact that it is posted on another website makes it not eligible for the Exclusive program.

Ain’t that just funny.
Simple models lacking creativity, like a remix of an articulated dragon model, or a simple phone case with no standout features are not welcomed in the program.
Well lets see…
They want “High Quality”, “Unique”, and “Creative” models, but is ok with having things like this…
Not high quality, not unique, not creative (no offense to the person that made the model, but we are only seeing these because one is on trending right now)
Is it a mistake? Maybe
Is it the result of having an overworked and understaffed department reviewing reports? Definitely
The real question is… What does MakerWorld gain by not enforcing their own rules?
Another thing I keep finding that I guess they are perfectly ok with (because the reports get rejected) are all these accounts that:
Create a MW account.
Upload popular public domain models from all over the internet and even steal their pictures.
Let the prints/downloads/boosts roll in.
I know technically the Public Domain license allows the models to be shared without attribution but the creators pictures too? Also if they want to keep the “exclusivity” vibe they seem to be going for, how many accounts with exactly the same models do you want on the site? Benchy check, infinity cube check, spiral fidget check. and ZERO real pictures except the ones they took from the original creator. I’ve said it before, I’m willing to bet most of those people don’t even have a printer.
What does exclusive mean if it isn’t actually exclusive?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I do not think you can post a model as SDFL if the source license is PD. Based on that alone, ignoring all of the other guidelines. How should that be so hard to make an accurate determination on that.
So many things could be said but I just keep reverting to because at this point that’s all that makes sense to do.
Anyways, when it comes to CC0 stolen pics when MW updated the rules last spring somewhere they stated that a printed photo must come from the uploader. I generally cite that rule and they get taken down. but as we all know reports are a dice roll as to what action is actually taken.
This is a key reason why what Bambu is doing to control the spam-farmers is too late in the process. Right now, they do verification right before they open the purse-strings (at gift card redemption).
This means that spammers are able to ruin other user’s experience with their slop for a LONG period of time… all the way up until they decide to try to cash out. Sure, Bambu gets to say they “dont sign checks to spammers” but they also give them a welcome mat to open up shop and try. And in the end, it’s everyone else that shoulders the burden
You know, I might as well show you a couple of the accounts… all public domain models, several in the exclusive program and descriptions like this:

I found that account because they were messaging people on MW and asking, “Will you donate a printer to me?”… I figured it was a young kid, then I went to their YouTube and I would say they’re around 20. It’s hard to tell because they are always wearing a Guy Fawkes mask (between me and you that’s TWO Guy Fawkes mentions in one day!).
This is the biggest part of the problem. It may have been said on other posts but, why is someone without a Bambu printer associated to their account allowed to earn points? They are obviously not able to contribute into the system (IE they can’t download in BS or Handy, print, and rate) for other designers so why do they get those benefits? That simple change would benefit the people who want to be part of Maker World more than it would ever hurt the community. Okay I ranted enough for the month…
Edit: Maybe they can download with an account, still something just doesn’t feel right about it to me.
This is a problem that will never be solved. This has been discussed extensively. There is nothing that you can do that will not eventually be “Tricked” (no treats here).
Like we saw more verification in the point system or recently when there was clarification on what needs a real print image. It does not matter if there is no benefit to makerworld.
MakerWorld has an unwritten rule that you can violate intellectual property rights all you want until MW is forced to take action by the property right owners. They’ll even pay you to do it.
From MW’s guidelines: Before submitting your models to our Exclusive Program, please ensure that your models have been removed from all other platforms and are Exclusively available on MakerWorld.
Since the model is hosted on other sites, it cannot be part of the Exclusive program.
And what happens when another person uploads a public domain model to MW after the first uploaded model? Can the second uploaded model be reported for takedown since there is an earlier model uploaded? Who wins that argument?
It’s already irritating enough to have to scroll past the exclusive model section every time I want to look at models licensed any other way than exclusive.
If spam CC0 models are allowed, I guess we should all start uploading them until Makerworld comes to their senses?
I thought the same thing… and one thing I’m always surprised by, it doesn’t matter if the “Infinity Cube” is on 100 accounts, it still gets downloads on all of them for some reason? I just filed some of those reports again with screen shots of the exclusive programs rules. We’ll see what happens.
I have another question, these people are uploading CC0 models and putting the standard digital license on them so they can make them exclusive. Is that ok?
I see two solutions to this. Either you have to list a public domain model with that same license, and they don’t get points OR (I know this isn’t going to happen) Makerworld can add these frequently uploaded CC0 models on their own account and no one else gets to. How many "Benchy"s do we need?
Oh and on that first solution, wasn’t that originally part of the site? Did you get points if you chose the “share” option when uploading? I know they removed it at some point…
As I’ve said before, the day that they start enforcing intelectual property rules strictly is the day that MakerWorld dies.
There are so many accounts, like Slevin or ModelLover, that their whole thing is making models of characters from well known franchises. AND they get a ■■■■ ton of downloads doing it.

The whole site was some variation of a benchy at some point. Thats what going to happen when you have benchy remix contests. Serious answer is one and one only.
This just shows how the CC0 license is used and abused. This was intended for remixes, but at the end of the day, there are people out there that do not change a thing.
Well, probably not… but I don’t think the majority of people know how licenses work… this guy for example makes his Exclusive and then thanks a bunch of people he’s remixed at the end of the model description:
