I didn’t catch this when first posted, but I think it’s a neat idea. I’m sure not everyone will find the value in it, but I know there’s those that will. There’s a lot of people that look to mimic the color choices of the designers, and for those sorts of people to be able to sort by color, I imagine it’d be great. It could be great for helping find color themed items too. Like searching for green, hehe. Just imagine the green focused objects. Uhh, like frogs, or leprechaun hats, or an endless see of things with the Bambu logo on them. Well, maybe not the last one as much.
You do realise you have just created a new contest for BL, right?
They look at their filament stock and determine which colours they have too much.
Now the subject of that contest is to make models primarily using [insert the overstocked filament here] colour filament.
I mean… I’m not against it. You know I love me some colors!
Haha, well, okay, if it wasn’t used as a tool to push overstock, then it could be pretty cool. I think the biggest issue we would face is that the majority of people that would enter it would be absolutely not playing into the spirit of things. That alone could probably ruin it, in my opinion.
If there was a contest focused on the glow in the dark filaments though, the TPU filaments, or like a PPA-CF focused contest.
Yeah, so imagine if we had contest where the entries pushed their filaments in interesting ways? In specific ways.
Anyway, I hate myself already for thinking on this further, because I’m already annoyed thinking about all the possible irrelevant entries. People slapping glow in the dark in the description of anything they have laying around, just so they can shoehorn it in.
Maybe it needs to be offered as a professional level contest. Bigger prizes, but stricter rules to entry. Really push the creative and direct use of those filaments in ways that actually highlight their use. If you submit a figurine with a glow in the dark filament, that wont be enough. It’d have to be something that uses the glow in the dark filament to enhance the experience in a way that would be lacking without. If you submitted an entry that used TPU, it would have to use TPU in an affective way that wouldn’t be as doable without. If you had an entry that used PPA-CF, it would have to highlight the strength properties in a useful and practical application.
Things like TPU are interesting, in that it’s useful, but it’s also hard to find fun things to do with TPU if you don’t have a specific use on hand. A contest like that could be cool then, because it could help highlight the uses of TPU. @MakerWorld, I think I might be onto an idea there worth bugging y’all about. A TPU focused contest. Even with my gripes about irrelevant entries, a TPU one would still be worth it.
I am down for that.
I have some of each, happy to get more.
I really think TPU could be utilised far more than it is. I have a lot of it, many colours, different speeds. I have a few TPU-only models in MW.
My keyring straps are the most popular. My toilet bumpers are less popular, for some weird reason.
