Makerworld Upload quality image

Hello, im having issues as when i upload images to my new models that i make the quality of the image is very low even if i take 108mp pictures, anyone else experiencing this issue ?

Can we see an example, do you ave a model page up yet?

Remember all images are compressed and there are restrictions on maximum file size.

Megapixel counts rarely equal quality, the amount of light getting to the lense determines quality more than anything else.

Then post-processing does heavy lifting these days.

yeah meaby its because i used 108mp and before i used full size on my pictures on my phone ill try again later, im sick now ill rest a bit thanks a lot Malc

Just a note, because I really dislike this “more MP more better” thinking.

A medium format digital camera, for example Fujifilm GFX 100 II has 102MP, and it’s sensor size id 43.8x32.9mm and around 3.8 µm pixel size
A full frame camera, for example Canon EOS R5 Mk2 has 45MP and it’s sensor size is 36x24mm and around 4.2 µm pixel size
Assuming what I found is true, then 108MP smartphone sensor is 9.5x7.1mm making the pixel size 0.6µm - that’s NOT good.

There’s hardly enough light that falls on 0.6µm to have enough for a sensor got go by, so there’s little in terms of dynamic range, color reproduction and low-light performance. Also - that small size requires electric boost since not enough photos fall onto such small area, making tons of noise requiring tons of denoising and even AI-processing (anybody who saw RAWs from camera sensor knows it’s very noisy even in best conditions)

A huge-MP but small pixel size is detrimental to image quality and makes no sense.

On the flip side, there are displays - most desktop displays aren’t even 4K, current stats say that nearly 50% is 1920x1080 and that’s… 2MP. Actual 4K screens? closer to 9MP. Huge, ultra expensive 32" Apple Pro Retina is 6K so 20MP at best. So again - 108MP is undisplayable even on largest screens without downscalling or zooming in.

And on the server side we’ve got to have image optimization: sending 108MP photo is nothing but a waste of bandwidth and storage space that needs to be optimized. Autooptimization never produces “good” results that a person would like to produce if they knew they had to produce images under certain size limit and resolution limits. And even then there are optimizations algos used on the server side that may mess up good photos due to lossy compression…

thanks for the tip ive tried uploading new pictures

nope still bad once everytime just as it feels like to upload bad… idk SD Card Holder by KenPrint3D - MakerWorld

they look better here idk ?

Yeah it doesn’t look so good on your model page. What’s the original resolution of the image? I downloaded the first image on the model page of yours and its 417x313 pixels.

Comparatively, I downloaded one of my own photos and it is 1919x1439 pixels, quite a large difference.

Is MakerWorld scaling down your image or is the original 417x313?

Edit: The image you uploaded here on this post is 480x645, but when you use it as a cover image it gets changed to be a 4:3 ratio, so I’d say that MakerWorld does scale yoru image down, but only to fit the 4:3 ratio. Looks like you need to take photos with a higher resolution (and preferably in a 4:3 ratio already so MakerWorld doesn’t need to resize at all)

on my phone it says 3:4 i believe… should i just take those pictures when I flip my phone ? Ill try again after work

you should resize the pictures before uploading to makerworld in your software of choice (personally I use lightroom), otherwise you’ll be dependant on a unknown compression that makerworld will put on their side, as they need to, and as @Johnny_Bit very clearly explained, megapixel count does not correlate directly with image quality, that comes from the combination of sensor, lens and processing algorithms of the cameras.

my camera is a 40 megapixel one, and i definitely don’t post photos with full resolution, they are resized to a proper dimension / file size before upload
