Hey all — wanted to share something I’ve been building: FromSketch, a CAD editor that runs entirely in the browser. No install needed, works on iPad too if you want to sketch on the go.
I built it specifically with makers in mind — something approachable enough to jump into for a quick part without learning a full desktop CAD suite first. Still early days, but the core modeling experience is coming together.
Here’s a video showing what it does and how to get started testing it:
The video has a link to our Discord if you want to try it out, report bugs, or just tell me what’s missing. Actively developing this and would love feedback from people who actually design things to print.
Happy to answer questions here too.
Here is a direct link to where I am hosting the application:

Testing is free
I have done about as much as I can on my own and I am currently looking for feedback to help this become a useful tool for makers.
The goal is to have it be super intuitive and usable on multiple platforms.
At some point I would like to introduce a one time fee but I am thinking it wouldn’t be anything ridiculous.
Seems very limited
What is the benefit to using something like this over OnShape or TinkerCAD?
This is meant to be a midway point between users who have experience with TinkerCad and Shapr3D.
Well, I use a lot more the Ipad than the computer, and I carry it everywhere, I would really like a “free” or very potent program for Ipad, since the good ones are for computer (fusion, blender, onshape..)
Great idea, but since I don’t use Discord, I’m afraid I’ll have to pass. Let me know if there’s another way to check it out.
How does the software operate: Is it accessible everywhere on my own network via localhost? Do I need my own server or PC to run it locally?
What i’m looking for! Hoping to see how it works when i have time.
(I’m from granada, spain and the earthquakes are unbearable and nonstop so i don’t have much time)
It can be used on the iPad but I am still ironing out some of the UI issues with the pencil.
It’s still quite early in development but I really would love to make something that could disrupt the big names and their subscriptions. It was never meant to be as powerful as Fusion 360 or OnShape. Just an easy to use CAD tool for makers to create
I put a link to the application in the original post.
I was using Discord as a way to get feedback.
And does it need an apple pencil like shapr or can it work direcly with the Ipad?
I have only tried it with the Pencil and it works (sort of) some features do not work as well as other, there is an ‘inkwell’ widget for iPad users that brings up the radial context menu. But it is still early.
And when importing, does it have a limit of triangles?
Thank you very much - I just tried it out, and it makes an extremely good impression. It has all the features a beginner needs for CAD. Above all, it’s real CAD, not pseudo-CAD. That has a ton of potential.
I know you’re still just getting started, but what immediately struck me is this: Even with simple objects, they aren’t manifold when exported. That’s one of the biggest problems if you want to 3D print them later. You should add a manifold check, especially for beginners who aren’t familiar with the term and wonder why it doesn’t work.
Blender confirms the same error: 30 edges are not manifold:
That sort of thing doesn’t happen in CAD software like Fusion 360 and all the similar programs. Like I said, I know it’s still in alpha, but it immediately caught my eye that the export is causing non mainfold problems. You should definitely take a look at that; otherwise, the software is not suitable for beginners.
Thank you very much for the feedback!
This is something I will work on right away.
Thanks for catching this — you were right, and it’s fixed now.
Good news: your model was never actually broken. The bug was in the export step, not your design. When two surfaces met at an edge, FromSketch was drawing that edge slightly differently on each side, leaving a microscopic gap — way too small to see, but enough for Blender and slicers to flag it as “not sealed.”
I’ve fixed the mismatch so edges always line up, plus added a cleanup pass that patches any tiny gaps that slip through. Everything exports fully sealed now, and you don’t need to redo anything — just re-export your existing models and they’ll come out fixed.
I also added the manifold check you asked for. If an export ever has a problem, it’ll now say plainly “open edges — slicers may refuse this” instead of throwing jargon at you.
Appreciate the sharp eye — this is exactly the kind of feedback that makes it better for beginners.
I’m not sure if this is intentional, but the design program is FromSketch and in the browser tab it says FromScratch
Good catch! FromScratch is what I first called this project when I started it! I changed it to FromSketch since I started focusing on the ‘sketching’ aspect. I was trying to lower the boundaries for users graduating from applications like TinkerCad - a simple way to sketch without worrying about constraints and then manipulate them.
