Max Volumetric Speed doesn't affect print speed on .6mm nozzle

I have an H2D and was looking to increase the print speed / lower the print time when printing with Bambu PETG HF filament on a .6mm HF nozzle. However when I change the Max Volumetric Speed setting for the filament, the print time does not change after re-slicing. I can decrease the MVS to 1mm^3/s or increase it to 40mm^3/s and the actual print time is the same. When I do the same with the nozzle set to .4mm, it behaves as expected with longer print times for lower MVS and shorter print times for higher MVS.

I am running the Bambu Studio 2.3.1.51 on a Mac.

On a related note, it’s too bad the Filament settings / Override Settings for Standard vs HF extruders don’t allow the MVS to be overridden based on extruder/nozzle type. How many people buy PETG HF and a HF nozzle and don’t realize it’s not printing at its full / rated speed automatically.

(And was anybody else confused by the fact that Bambu / Bambu Studio refers to the volumetric flow rate as flow speed and the extrusion multiplier as “flow rate”? And then in the preview pane, the “Flow” visualization refers to volumetric flow rate.)

This is not the fault of Bambu, it’s just how the community has developed the language into a complete mess. VFR and FR has been used over many years and it has always been a mess for new users.

You didn’t save the volumetric speed to HF nozzle, that’s why your results are wrong. Standard and HF nozzles have different profiles:

Thank you! You are 100% right. I don’t know how I missed that. I saw that control in the Settings Overrides pane and complete missed that it was common to all panes and behaves exactly how I would have wanted it to (with unique settings for standard vs. HF nozzles). My experiments had been on a .6mm HF nozzle compared with a .4mm standard nozzle, so I was changing the correct setting for the standard nozzle, but the wrong setting for the HF nozzle.

I was wrong that any changes are needed to take advantage of the HF filament/nozzle combination. The print speed difference isn’t always as large an improvement as you might expect, but that is typically due to the speed settings in the print profile being used.

Totally understood that the current naming scheme comes primarily from the development community (presumably from the Orca slicer development from which Bambu Slicer is derived).
