Hi
Ive run into this issue that I occasionally get. After slicing, an area of my mesh is missing and I dont know whats causing it. (it’s the portion in the second image). Would anybody know why specifically this happens?

At a guess from the pic’s, I’d assume that the local thickness is below the nozzle diameter?
If that is the case, then either slicing for a smaller nozzle and/or using the “Arache” wall generator should lead to improvements.

Hi. yeah it’s quite a small size model im printing and this goes away if I scale it up. When slicing for 0.2 it still seems to happen though :-/ . Are there any setting for Arache I could try? Ive had a quick try but it doesnt seem to make a difference.

If any features are smaller than the diameter of the nozzle, the slicer will remove them because they cannot be printed.
In this situation, the “detect thin walls” option might help you out if it’s not already enabled, although the quality of the printed results may leave something to be desired, it will bypass the slicer’s normal “no less than nozzle width” criteria and attempt to print down to maybe around 0.2 - 0.25 wide lines with a 0.4mm nozzle.
Less than nozzle-width lines are like trying to paint pinstriping on a car using a house paint brush.

hi! yeah this all makes sense thanks. hmm.yeah that option makes things a ‘little better’ but not great. think im going to have to tweak the model
Well, there are limits to what Arachne can do. I have had good results down to 60% but that was with a .4 nozzle.

Thanks guys. Yeah, your explanations have cleared the mystery in my head as to why it’s happening which was the main thing. I’ll just adjust the model. thanks for your help

You can force printability of thin features by modifying “XY Contour” and “XY hole” compensations, to force the slicer to interpret EVERY wall as fatter than it actually is.
This is using a wrecking ball across the whole model when you only want it on a scalpel sized piece, but you’d be surprised that sometimes the rest of the model looks just fine. It absolutely will no longer fit into anything designed to fit in it anymore.
