Feature Request: Mesh-Guided Color Painting Tool
I’d like to propose a new painting feature and will explain it through an example.
I used the tool at https://bumpmesh.com/ to generate a textured version of a basic pot. My goal is to paint the extruded sections to achieve a specific visual and structural result: eg this:
Initially, I used the Modifiers + Assembly workflow to align the modified (textured) pot with the original model. I then applied color changes using the original pot as a modifier. However, the resulting sliced model is structurally weak because the colored sections are not interlocked with the base material. Enabling beam interlocking does not sufficiently resolve this issue.
As an alternative, I used the Paint Fill tool. This approach produces a much stronger result, as the painted regions integrate better with the model. However, painting—even when using the edge fill tool—is quite tedious and time-consuming
Suggested Improvement
I propose adding a mesh-guided fill tool with the following capabilities:

Allow a separate mesh to be used as a guide (or mask) for selecting triangles to paint.

The tool would automatically select triangles that closely match or overlap with the guide mesh geometry.

Include an option to invert the selection (i.e., select everything outside the mask).
