I think it will be wise to focus on one clear use case like fixing meshes, coloring, or beginner-friendly editing instead of doing everything.
Trying to build a full replacement for professional tools would be too big and not practical.
MeshMixer is an unsupported and discontinued Autodesk product. Need to be careful where you get it to not get a boobytrapped version carrying malware. They added that functionality to Fusion 360.
select by mesh can made clean object parts!! and separate way that be selected is just that miss to bambu studio, if add extrude way, soft surface as them adapative layer, could built head from cube
I have been using Meshmixer for years and really love it. Sadly it has been discontinued for years also by Autodesk, very annoying because before it was bought by them there was a lot of development by the person who created it. It also had a great forum with tons of info that was completely deleted by Autodesk.
Recently I searched for a replacement kind of sculpting software, I found Nomad Sculpt which isn’t free but very cheap and now available for Windows too: https://nomadsculpt.com
It also has a nice forum and lots of updates so maybe it’s only a matter of time before Autodesk buys it ![]()
Autodesk folded the MeshMixer functionality into Fusion. It works really well but carries the complexity of Fusion. But it allows joining and editing meshes, adding textures, etc.
cannot invest on fusion 360 today!! and why textures on print object?? i don’t need i think.. in learning if and this with meshlab and blender car made all! but i made before on bambu studio, and that i can’t
Fusion is free to use for hobbyists that don’t receive more than some smallish amount of profit from their activities. They do limit you to only 10 editable files at a time but it’s easy to toggle between editable and read-only. The bigger issue for most people seems to be the learning curve. It’s powerful so is also somewhat complex.
Why textures on a print object? Depends but here is wood grain applied to a backplate to make it look like a wooden board, and a hammertone texture applied to the “bronze” knocker parts.
The bone meshes were then added to the board and colored white in Studio. In the skull part, a hardware box and mounting bosses were added to the inside of the skull to hold/mount the knocker actuation servo and a sound effects speaker. The eye stalks also got meshed with the skull. So far this has been the most involved project I’ve done using Fusion with applying textures and joining meshes. It’s really a cool capability.
If you want a really-advanced program for manipulating meshes, check out “MeshLab”. Open source, actively supported. Does everything MeshMixer does plus an incredible amount of additional functionality.
Unlike MeshMixer, MeshLab provides a few different methods for cleaning up non manifold edges and vertices.
The program can be a bit intimidating at first, its complexity is high. But Google AI can be used to provide specific instructions for operations like cleaning up non-manifolds.
