Mirror finish with silk silver facedown

hello, i have been using the ironing feature which has been pretty good, but it leaves a matte surface and some drag lines. so i thought about orienting the model face down on a smooth plate. however i see first layer lines which i did not expect. the outer and inner walls are fantastic and smooth but i wish the first layer would mesh better to look like the walls. any suggestions?

Increase first layer flow slightly. Or reduce the first layer nozzle width slightly.

That being said, you will not achieve a mirror finish no matter what you do. For that, you’ll need to smooth and polish the surface. And even then, it will reflect more light but it won’t be mirror like. It’ll be more like a sheet of white paper, reflecting the light but scattering it so you won’t see your reflection.

There are paints you can buy that will leave a mirror-like finish. If that’s what you want, something like that is your best bet.

oh ok i will try. and i should have mentioned that im not looking a chrome finish. im more looking for dull aluminum finish that has a slight muted reflective surface. it’s the visible layer lines that ruined the effect. but thank you so much for responding so quickly!

I very much liked the look I got with Sunlu’s PLA Silk Silver and the Diamond 3D Effect Sheet when using a concentric 1st layer pattern. Almost like a milled part.

Since I gifted all the parts, I only have an older pic though.

I use silky silver a lot. Have you tried Monotonic Line as your bottom surface on a smooth plate? Personally, I use Hilbert Curve a lot. It looks intentionally different than the smooth sides, but it’s sexy.

Yeah monotonic line is what i’ve been using. i tried the Hilbert curve and it did have a cool look. it gave it a pearlescent diamond like luster. but im trying new things. i actually don’t mind seeing lines as long as it looks like a milled part, which is the look that i’m going for.
