I ordered and received a P2S combo a few weeks ago. It works great, but a friend said I was supposed to get a power supply for the AMS. Do any of you know if I was supposed to get one?
The P2S will power the AMS without a supply. If you add more AMS 2 then you need to purchase a power supply for it. If this is an AMS (first gen) then it doesn’t use a power supply.

It’s the AMS 2, or Pro, whatever they call it. No external power supply in the box.
I also have a P2S without AMS because I thought I didn’t need one. I didn’t know what I was missing until the combo arrived. So I’ve ordered an AMS pro for the second P2S. I knew I needed a kit to go with it, and they are sending the kit. Funny thing though, the second AMS is coming with a power supply. My friend says that’s for AMS heating. So… if BBL thinks I need a power supply for my second AMS, why didn’t I get one with the combo? They know I’m putting it on a P2S.

If you’re putting an AMS 2 on a P2S, H2D, H2S or H2C and it’s only one, then no power supply is needed. You would only need a power supply if you were to put more than one AMS 2 on a printer.

It is an optional extra and only added to the sake if you choose to add it.

You should read the guide about the power and connectivity of the various AMS units and various printers. It is directly referenced in the page I provided above,

I’m not doing multiples. I’ll have one P2S with an AMS added after having the printer for a while. And I have a P2S combo that came with an AMS. So two printers in different rooms with each having an AMS pro.
So, you need only refer to the wiki link I provided that has this information.
When using the drying function, one AMS 2 Pro can be powered by the printer ; all others must be powered by a Switching Adapter
If you connect one AMS 2 Pro to one P2S, then the printer has sufficient power to enable the drying feature.
For other people, or you in the future.
If you have two or more AMS 2 Pro units attached to the printer, and require drying from more than one AMS, you need one optional power supply for each additional AMS that dries.

One thing I didn’t realize until I tried it was that even with just one AMS Pro connected, you cannot use the drying function while the printer is printing, unless you have an external power supply. This was on an H2C and I was printing with the other nozzle, and I realize that’s unlikely to be an issue on the P2, unless one is printing from external spool. But it may be a source of confusion, perhaps, why some might think an external power supply is required anyway.

Negative on that. When I press “activate AMS heater”, it says no go (words to that effect).
Switching adapter? Is that BBL talk for power supply?
According to BL, a single AMS 2 Pro (firmware up to date on AMS and printer) will run the drying function.
This will not occur if the printer is using the AMS 2 Pro as the source for an active print.
For that, you need the separate switching power adapter as the heating function draws too much power.
The ability to dry while printing was added after they started selling the AMS 2 Pro. I am not sure if this feature was not planned at launch and only added after backlash in the form of complaints from customers.

Yes. And if it ticks you off that they didn’t include one, like it did me, there are a dozen suitable 24 VDC 4A replacements on Amazon for half the price. Plug is 5.5mm x 2.5mm. Some have reviews from AMS Pro owners already. Can literally just search something like “ams pro power supply”. Just sayn’…

Not true for me. Not true from Bambu’s site:
I have a P2S w/ 2 AMS2 connected, both w/o power supply and it’s working fine. While the P2S is idle, one of the two AMS can execute the drying function.
Didn’t I say that too?
I assume one needs two power supplies per AMS: one for drying and one for printing. That’s why Bambu is shipping them w/o any power supply.

it is not necessary, but if you want to dry at full temperature while printing, you need the adapter

You do not need a switching power supply on the first AMS unless you wish to dry while printing at the same time.
You only need one power if it is required at all.
If you wish subsequent AMS units to dry, those need a single switching unit.

After that, the OP pointed out he didn’t have more than AMS, a subject I didn’t bring up, so I needed to clarify.
I then had to clarify the heating while printing required the switching power supply.
Then I had to point out the switching power supply is not BL for power supply p, it is the actual product name.
I suppose you didn’t read my invaluable contribution.
