Missing Support Interface

Guys I think im missing something here…. my support interface to be exact.
It simply doesnt exist, no matter what parameters I change.
I dont print much with support these days, so I dont know if its because of the new studio version I installed yesterday or not.

Anyone ran into this before and may know a fix?

In all fairness, a picture is not going help the community help you. In this specific scenario, in order to take the guesswork out of this, it requires looking at the actual 3MF file so that everything can be looked at including slicing it using different slicers.

My theory is that the issue is related to the angle where the tapering tree support meets the model. Certain combinations may result in a space too small to fit a single line of “interface” at the current line height and line width, so the slicer just omits it. You can zoom in to see a small empty space where the interface should be. I have not proved that theory to my satisfaction, but in some experimental slices, changing line width or using a different layer height have made a difference in interface layer generation.

For the Tablet Mount, I can force an interface layer using the same model orientation by changing the Threshold angle to 65° and using Hybrid style trees. (with a long pause in support generation at 69%). I do not understand why this works, I thought the angle only determined whether any support was needed.

For myself, I would probably not have bothered to orient the model at this angle. I assume it is done to improve strength, but I don’t think that it will make a significant difference, and the short layer lines may even weaken the long thin part forming the slot.

I would just lay it on the opposite edge, which also saves hours of print time:

I think something has been changed in new studio version. More and more reports are coming in about this. It could be a coincidence, but it’s worth keeping an eye on. There was also a hotfix from Bambu today, which should fix some problems.

Yes, I had made the same observation when I initially noticed “huh there is a color missing” then instantly checking if I dissabled the interface layers in the slicer preview by accident.
The reason I angled it like this was A because I wanted to experiment with what I can get away with printing something that is ‘larger’ than the print bed in a single dimension, as well as testing if I can use fewer supports like this.
Either way, I noticed that this probably shouldnt be happening and figured id ask.

Ill probably just orientate it standing up like you have in the final picture, but first ill try the hotfix to see if it addresses the issue or not.

Good to know im not the only one having weird issues.

Even after the hotfix (which I had little hope for since it didnt mention anything about supports / interface layers), the result remains the same.
However it does work when in an upright position.

I wonder if there is an angle to layer height ratio where the support trees just simply dont have enough space to produce interface layers?
I kind of want to test print it to see if it may not even be needed, since the gap is so minimal (though I must mention that the gap is significantly larger in the original posts image - pre hotfix).
Sure it wouldnt have a nice surface finish but it might work regardless? I have seen worse errors magically fix itself a few layers up.

Yeah something is absolutely not right here.
Even with ‘normal’ supports it doesnt connect correctly to anything that isnt a straight 90° overhang.

Thinking im paranoid and its just my models that are messed up I went to grab some calibration files and its not any different there:

Scratch that, even at a flat 90° it doesnt work.


I have no clue whats going on, is there a way to roll-back studio version, so I can give earlier versions a try and see where it started happening?
Dont know if bambu has any older versions officialy available somewhere.

That Makerworld model is just for testing - it does not claim that the initial settings produce good supports.

From the description:

Start with Top Z Distance of 0.2 and increment in 0.02 until you have a setting you are happy with.

That would begin with a full layer gap using a 0.4 nozzle and a Standard 0.20 layer.

Older Studio versions are available on Github. Open Assets for the download. For Windows, grab the .zip file for the “portable” version that does not interfere with the current installation.
