Mixing HF and regular nozzles in H2D?

Hi,

Bambu Studio does not allow mixing nozzles of different sizes (0.2 and 0.4) in the same head.

I asked Bambu support if I can use the same size but not same flow (left regular 0.4, right HF )

I was told no you cannot, I wonder why.

Also I was told not to use HF heads for filaments with fibers (ASA-CF, PA-GF…)

Any experience with the such ?

I do it all the time, no issue, you can mix them. As for the CF/GF filaments, I haven’t had any issue either but may be in the long run, these will damage the HF nozzle, may be idk.

I thought it does not make sense as every nozzle has its on printing profile anyway…

What about using HF nozzles for fiber filled materials ?… are they more prone to clogging ?

When Bambu says you can’t do something like this, but the machine allows it and no 3rd party product is involved, it usually means there is some rare problem that will sometimes occur, and they have enough customers that any rare problem is going to create a lot of tickets in their system — or there is an upgrade due soon.

Sometimes it’s both, like printing from an AMS while it dries. They’re right in that you don’t want to do this, so they never made it do that, but people want to do it and Creality does, so I guess now they have re-program it to allow it.

I can understand why mixing nozzle sizes is not supported as they use different layer height.

But when using the same nozzle size and different materials the printing profile (speed, temperature etc…) are anyway different so there is no sense to limit HF in one side and regular in the other.

I don’t think BL ever referenced that it cannot be done. Filled material can be a different subject but mixing HF and regular nozzles has never been an issue

A very sensible and logical point, however, the arbiter of what works will be the machine’s firmware or bambu studio’s code and not not logic.

You may well be right and it may well work 100% of the for 100% of the users. Who knows?

I guess bambu studio is theoretically open source (more like source code available) so we could check if it’s a slicer limitation.

There is no slicer limitation, only to use the same diameter nozzle. I actually have only one HF nozzle installed on my H2D.

Additionally, I have never seen advise on the contrary in bambu’s documentation, can you link to where bambu is advising against mixing HF and standard nozzle?

I dont know if they do or not, i was commenting that sometimes when a restriction like this is made, it can be a one of those rare things that only affects a small percentage, but that generates enough tickets to make them say it doesnt work
