I’m in a spot of bother. I use my models to form polymorph onto and it has been working well until a week ago. suddenly, bits of the models break off when i removed the thermoformed plastic. The models look shinier and are clearly not held together as strong.
Nothing changed about the printer settings but i did swap to a 0.2mm nozzle for some minis and then changed back to 0.4
This is driving me mad. I’ve recalibrated everything and can’t figure out why the prints are worse quality. Can anyone help me?
This happened previously with my flsun q5 and i had to recalibrate the extruder every time. its why i bought the a1 actually
Welcome to the foum.
By chance, were the filaments subjected to ambient air during this period? If so, they could be (slightly) humid, which certainly would result in the exact issues you notice.
I tried a 0.2mm nozzle to print some minis and then changed back to my 0.4mm.
My prints are now terrible and the printer oozes like mad. I don’t know what has happened. Can changing nozzle somehow mess with the extruder or something? I’ve tried calibrating everything and even changing firmware but its still rubbish.
Have you double checked that both the printer settings (on the display) and the sliced file are correctly set for the .4 nozzle? The printer can’t detect the nozzle size so it won’t throw an error if it is incorrect.
yes, thanks. both are set to 0.4. stragely, I had to change the printer back to 0.4 on the display but hadn’t changed it to 0.2 when i was using the 0.2 nozzle. maybe the software sent the message. regardless, all are set to 0.4mm now
I can’t figure out what the hell happened. My prints keep breaking apart when I peel off thermoformed polymorph from them. I’ve been doing this for years and suddenly it’s all gone to hell.
I’ve changed filament, dried both spools, cleaned the hotend, checked the extruder.
I’m pulling my hair out here. Why is the layer adhesion so weak??
I’m using PLA and i’m using the generic PLA profile. I was using this profile for months with no issues but now my prints are rubbish. the nozzle oozes and strings much more than before
Is there any chance bambu studio did some quiet update and changed some setting?
Using the “Printing History” in the Handy app you can resend the gcode that you sliced at a previous date. This will show you if the issue is related to slicing or filament/hardware.
Brand and color can be factors in how much help people can provide. Is it new? Old? Did the issue coincide with a new filament shipment? If multiple people star reporting issues with a specific brand/color, patterns can stick out big time.
Also, you mention that you bought a dryer and it has made no difference. There are some bum dryers out there that bake the filament but don’t exchange the air effectively so filament more or less just stews in its own moisture. Make and model important here too unfortunately.
Thing is a lot about 3D printing is a bit subtle. Without including more detail and even images (though lamination issues says a lot even without photos) it makes it harder to help.
There was a small update added to bambu studio today to fix issues with purge lines
and some other minor issues , open bambu studio / prepare and look for the update
bottom right
The layering issue is more than likely under extrusion which can be caused by numerous things; one of those being setting the software to 0.2 nozzle when having a 0.4 physically installed. I don’t know what steps you took to switch back to the 0.4, but you need to make sure, as noted by @JonRaymond, that the slicer and printer show the correct nozzle size. Once you’ve verified that, try to re-slice the model with these settings and see if the layer adhesion issues is fixed.
You may want to remove and reinstall your nozzle just to make sure that it’s properly seated. I can’t imagine it’d clip back in place if it’s seated wrong, but it’s worth checking. While you’re at it, double check that you have a 0.4 nozzle installed and not a 0.6.
Yep, the Sunlu S2 is one that stews. Is yours an S2Plus (has a fan and you’ll definitely hear it) or an S2 without a fan?
If you search Sunlu S2 in MW (Search - MakerWorld), you’ll find little spacers that can prop the lid open slightly. The heater will run a little more depending on air currents but it needs air exchange to work better.
This may have nothing to do with your issue though, but may help with your printing in general.
I printed a previous gcode from before I had issues and I still have the old, functional model. The new print still has problems wit hweak layer adhesion so I am assuming this is a hardware or filament issue like you say.
The only thing that happenned was I changed nozzles t o0.2 and back. nozzle and pritner setting are at correct 0.4mm now.
I notice a little bit of oil on the stock nozzle. do i need to use thermal paste on the nozzle connector? where does the thermometer detect hot end temp - the hot end itself or the pritner side of the connector?
