these days I’ve been printing too many models for Makerworld I guess. I mean to say, specifically, I’ve been been trying out too many different models/profiles to get points for them. There is a limit of 80 points per calendar month, which I far exceed.
I don’t shy away from printing stuff that has has no ratings at all. I also print stuff that doesn’t even have a profile, and I would even upload a profile that works for me in that case (but I can’t, because I use Orca, but that is a different topic.)
Now, I always do two things: I try to make a nice foto of the print, and I say what I honestly think of the resulting print describing the filament and any adjustments to the provided profile. Stars are awarded fairly (according to my subjective rational, which however I will describe in the comment.)
Since I went over the limit again (on the first day of the month, having accumulated enough new prints to rate from last month to hit the limit immediately), I stopped rating profiles again this month. I’ll wait 'til September, and will add ratings again until my points stop being accrued (on the first of the month), and wait another month, and so-on.
What am I saying? Am I complaining? Well I guess not, I mean, I print anyway. I could rate profiles and skip out on the points, yes. But I am a bit sad that I can’t provide high-quality feedback as much as I would like to for the model/profile uploaders and for other prospective users who profit from eachother’s feed back.
“I can’t provide high-quality feedback as much as I would like to for the model/profile uploaders and for other prospective users who profit from eachother’s feed back”
Yes, you can, but you will not get any point. It’s up to you.
Yes, I indicated that I have the choice to forgo getting points. But why should I lose out on the reward of investing some time to document and rate the profile? It’s very important for Makerworld to have real actual prints rated and shown.
Since it is in Makerworld’s interest to encourage people to spend time printing and rating many prints, they can do that by giving the folks a few points for giving their feedback. And if they cap that to a (in my opinion low) monthly limit, then that’ll also put a cap on the incentive rate prints.
Thanks for sharing your experience, and as a designer, I appreciate that you always share photos and provide feedback. With that said, the earlier that you can provide feedback to the designer on any issues that could improve the experience for everyone, then I would request that you do so. I know that it’s a bummer to not get as many points but think of it this way - if the designer doesn’t know what to change and more people keep printing a faulty design, then there is more wasted plastic in the world or people frustrated with the hobby. Since you are an avid printer, your experience can help others in the community.
If you are interested in getting more points, I would follow @Henlor 's suggestion and try to upload some models that are unique to MW. Cheers,
I don not recommend hold back comments, as the print profile might be taken offline due to modell changes then you can not comment on it anymore if it is not anymore onlien. And the designer maybe needs the feedback if something is work with the modell or the print profile.
Oh I definately think there needs to be a cap, because of the potential for abuse.
But just trying out some nice models and giving feedback it’s very easy to reach that cap.
Makerworld profiles and the whole Bambu ecosystem make it very easy to print nice things – that is the whole point of the whole thing. That is the big success of this story.
In light of that, perhaps the cap could be raised, in order to keep the incentive for good feed back.
Since ratings with images and descriptive text are awarded more points, than just stars, those people who give more useful ratings hit the point limit faster (I’d be one of those people.)
The suggestion is to allow higher point awards monthly for the qualitatively more valuable reviews with images and text (gladly min. 20 characters or whatever), compared to those with just stars (which although also useful if they are given sincerely, are far less useful than seeing an actual print of the model!)
I doubt they will give more rewards for reviews, they have recently restructured the rewards system and I can see in the future it will possibly change to just be designers who get the rewards. I think the current system is only there as they are relatively new to this space and want to build up there user base, once they get to where they feel comfortable I can see another restructuring of the system as I imagine it is quite costly to support and they will eventually have to cut back.
