It says more filament is needed when I added a negative part. How does that happen? It lists the negative part as needing filament?

Your question requires additional context.
- Can we assume you are using Bambu Studio?
- Screenshots of the legend panels before and after slicing would be helpful.
- Screenshots of the model before and after the negative space.
A guess without additional information:
When you add negative space, the void has walls surrounding it, it may also require support. One or both of those could require more filament than the amount displaced by the void.
I questioned how Studio knew how much filament was available. I deleted my post when I realized that the 2.6.1.55 beta might be in use, which tracks filament usage. Since I’m unlikely to use the Bambu cloud again, I don’t feel qualified to respond to the question.

I believe the filament usage information has been shown for many versions prior to the one currently available as publicly released.
There are more walls with hole (as Malc said), plus purge. But I/we can’t tell from the screenshots why it wants to use brown filament or where that assignment comes from.

Use the layer bar on the right of the prepare tab to scroll down to the area with the hole so you can peek inside for each of your examples.
Chances are you will see the visible representation the walls and the infill and you will see exactly how the filament is used and hopefully understand the walls are thicker than the total volume of the infill that is being removed by the void you added.
Feel free to share a screenshot series of these if it isn’t readily understandable.

Here ir is. Not sure why a red area that goes beyond the hole. That would be already be included (printed) in the pot print, the no hole scenario. The math just doesn’t add up. Replacing. a volume (cylinder) (up by a power of 3) with a boundary. (power of 2)
Using multiple filaments is what is increasing your total usage
Test “multiple filament with a hole” vs “multiple filament with no hole”
Not “multiple filament with a hole” vs “single filament with no hole”

There were two colours in each of your screenshot slicing results but nothing in your models.
Without zooming, it couldn’t be seen.
You should check the purged column when things like this happen.
