More VFAs and incosistent layers since update

I’ve been using my P2S for a few weeks and initially I was extremely happy with it. Just from the box I was seeing almost no VFA’s and surfaces (both straight and rounded) we’re very smooth with super consistent layers.

But since recently, (after update??) i’m having more pronounced VFA’s and inconsisted layer lines, causing a striped appearance,

Any ideas how I can tweak this? Print quality has just deteriorated since new, and I.m having just about 100 hours of printing on this P2S.



In my opinion that is it not VFA. The horizontal bulges are inconsistent filament and the segmented areas are a low quality model with facets.

Quality filament that is calibrated is important.

Regarding the horizontal lines, I can follow. I will try this same model with another filament. (however this same filament has produced perfect prints before). Regarding the VFA’s / Model: The model was not created from a mesh. I designed it from a parametric cylinder in Fusion. Similar models printed absolutely smooth before.

We should assume then that you exported the model as a .STEP file which describes the cylinder mathematically. You might try reducing Linear and Angle Deflection on import to create a mesh with more triangular facets.

Many users send the model directly to the slicer, or export the model as .STL or .3MF. Parametric or not, those methods all produce a coarser mesh of triangles, resulting in curves with facets.

Reducing VFA is mostly a matter of finding the print speeds that do not produce resonance.

Studio has a VFA calibration test available in Develop mode, but I find that the OrcaSlicer Wiki has a better explanation of the same test.

Actually, I would be more concerned about the horizontal bulges.

Thanks. I checked this model under different lighting and what I described as VFA is clearly not on all sides. This for me is proof that it IS VFA on 1 of the axis at least. If it was an artifact from the model / STL conversion is should be more regular all around. I did the same model with Bambu basic filament and the horizontal lines are gone now. But the VFAs remain.

Latest update requires you to do another Motor Noise Cancellation calibration, have you done it after the recent update?

Yes, I did a full re-calibration including motor noise calibration after the update.

Agreed. Inconsistent filament diameter/quality or print speed. Besides,VFAs are vertical bands running up and down the object (as the result of inconsistent travel speed caused by motor stepping or drive belt/pulley issues).
