Mouse competition

Hello everyone, thanks to a mention (from @AeonJoey, thanks again  ) I became aware of this thread and saw such a rollermouse for the first time. Of course it would be great to make something like this available to everyone.

Unfortunately, as has often been mentioned, the electronics are really unsuitable.
but there could be an approach. I have made a very rough structure to make it a little easier to understand.

In principle, there are two perforated or semi-transparent strips that run relatively thinly under the laser.
I can’t say how well diagonal movement would work, as the tapes don’t really move diagonally, but it should be possible to operate them in principle.
Of course, it would be better to use these belts to move a plate, which then moves horizontally and vertically underneath the laser. Similar to a 3D printer print head. however, the plate would then have to be adapted to the monitor both mechanically and in terms of size, which would be a not inconsiderable effort.

I probably won’t find enough time to realise this in the foreseeable future. However, if anyone here feels inspired or called upon, I would be happy to provide support if required.

Hi to everyone who got involved in the Roller mouse design. I wanted to thank you all for your hard work and dedication to the topic. I realise it wasn’t suited to the competition as it required complex electronics not available in the Bambu mouse kit. Regardless, your efforts are greatly appreciated and I do hope that you will pursue this design to see if 3d printer enthusiasts can have a go with a mouse design “outside of the box”. Thank you again, Jumbeen.

I hope I can revisit the idea. I’ve been thinking a lot about how I could approach this and make it simple. I’m pretty confident in my ideas so far, and the test I’ve done. I want to find a doner mouse. I think if I do something, it’ll require a little soldering skills, but I think there is the very real possibility of making this work, although I don’t know if it’ll be as smooth as the real deal.

I thought about the idea that I could use the Bambu mouse kit as the doner mouse, but if it’s going to require some soldering type work, then I’m considering that maybe I want to find a higher quality mouse, haha.
