My AMS has Auto Refill. Will it detect a different brand?

The P1S with AMS has *Auto Refill. A3 spool has Bambu Lab Basic PLA black. A4 is a different brand black but is PLA. Will it detect a different brand PLA that is the same color and switch to that? If not, can the be manually directed to A4 if A3 runs out?

While I am not sure if your A4 spool would be used as a refill for your A3 Bambu filament, I did find another forum post going over another option:

The brand, material, and color must match exactly for auto-refill. The logic for this is that they might have different print settings etc.

If it runs out and cannot reload itself, you can put a the new roll of different material into the exact same socket of the AMS, and it will just trust you and use it without checking.

You may be 100% right on this @Eponymous, but I did have a Bambu PLA-CF Black (the one that comes with the X1C combo) get auto refilled by a Bambu PLA Matte Black. Turned out I ran out of the CF roll 95% into the print, and it picked the matte to finish, and I’m glad it did.

This sounds like auto-detection of filament (from the RFID) did not work properly (or the type had been set manually incorrectly) given that these filaments have different printing temperature and printing speeds, it would be an error to auto-reload them.

Yes, I saw a couple videos where that was done. Bambu Studio has setting now for Sunlu PLA+ but when going into Print, Bambu Studio doesn’t recognize Sunlu or any other filament brand at all. The settings are almost identical between the two brands and I have had great print results with several Sunlu filaments. Best thing is Amazon usually gets delivery within two days whereas with Bambu Lab you must purchase quite a few spools to get free shipping and shipping takes longer. On the plus side they have great products.

No problem with settings. The setting for Sunlu were installed by Bambu Lab in an update back in February this year and are virtually identical.

You could try printing the Sunlu PLA using a Bambu filament preset, and if it prints good, manually change your Sunlu preset to the tested Bambu preset, that way you’ll know for sure it’ll auto refill.

Depending on the specific type of SUNLU you can use either Generic PLA or Bambu PLA profile for both (Bambu PL A Basic will work with either). (Or the new SUNLU profile but it’s not availbable for the Bambu printer I have).

From experience, SUNLU PLA+ can’t handle high speeds and will go weird if you print it as if it was a fast printing PLA like Bambu, if your model has long straight surfaces where the print head can reach full speed - it caps out at around 16 mm^3 volumetric rate. However I don’t know which SUNLU you’re using.

Thanks. Sunlu PLA+ 2.0. I’ve printer another section of the same rack from MakerWorld and it came out great so, hence, the reason to try it here. There may be a few settings that are different between the brands but nothing different in temperature setting for nozzle and plate.

Check the volumetric flow, and temperatures, and you should be OK. Volumetric flow is a good way to manage print speeds, one setting will cap the speed for all types of motion that extrude plastic.
