Hey all — Tyler (a.k.a TCoops) here, solo maker in Calgary running an H2C, H2D Laser Combo, an X1C, an A1 Mini, and an A1. I wanted to share something I’ve been building for a while in case it’s useful to anyone else drowning in spool and Spoolman or other apps didn’t have the features I seemed to need.
I had 380+ filament spools and was tracking all of it in a Notion database. It worked for a while, then it didn’t — I couldn’t tell what was actually in stock without digging, I’d buy colors I already had, and more than once I started a print and found out mid-job I was nearly out on the only spool of that material.
So I built FIM — Filament Inventory Manager. It’s a web app, not a spreadsheet or a local install.
- FIM splits your catalog from your spools, letting you separately track your collection of filaments from how many spools you have.
- Every filament in your catalog gets a short auto-assigned ID (like FS-35) so you can label it physically and find it again in seconds (“FS-” prefix customization coming in the future)
- Log usage per print and remaining weight updates automatically — no manual subtraction
- Low-stock alerts before you’re mid-print and out
- Ties usage to specific projects, so you can see exactly what a print cost you in materials
- CSV import, so if you’re already tracking spools in a spreadsheet or Notion (like I was) you’re not starting from zero
- Supports 20+ materials out of the box — PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, TPU, Nylon, PC, composites, plus custom materials
- Print Automation with Bambu Lab Cloud is in alpha right now — log in, review completed prints, auto-deduct filament used. Not in beta yet, but it’s coming after thorough internal testing and validation.
- Full light and dark mode support and much more to come.
- I plan to keep FIM open with a Free tier, giving everyone access to the basic filament tracking that everyone needs. Some feature will be paid upon official release, no pricing detail available and founder pricing will be available.
