Id say you saved a good amount of cash even after the grand in filament. But damn, how many walls was that? lol almost seems like it could be solid pla at 40 kilos
Iād reply, by quoting an old saying from my ancestorsā land, that "is not a fool the one that is asking for, but definitely is a fool the one that is paying " such prices.
Yeah, I would say the software isnāt flawless, and it really depends on the model, the simplicity of the cuts, etc. and the settings changed. I will say I used the Free Trial Upgrade, and not the standard Free license. Iāll likely purchase it, since it worked well for what I wanted to accomplish.
LM is notorious for high-priced statues, and usually the quality is pretty awful. I saw a few of them that had a similar build quality as the Deadpool statues that used to be for sale at FYE. Nothing against those statues, but they were $2k - $3k, not $20k lol.
Which in the end is why I chose the path of making it myself. It was around $2,500 total with the cost of the X1C factored into it, and then for time, I really didnāt do much. Since the pieces were so large, the supports broke off cleanly since there werenāt small details as everything was expanded 8x.
Agreed! I think Master Chief is next. I printed a small 1:8 scale statue of him and overall the print should be fairly straightforward. It has smaller pieces, but things like the rifle, armor, etc. should be fun to break up the long prints. the waist/upper-legs are one piece so thatāll be insane.
Have you considered printing a live size replica of Jakeās avatar from the Naāvi-inhabited Pandora? Or some other hoooman historical or novel/cartoon character, instead of a guy dressed up in combat armor, just because the armor made him moreā¦notorious than others?
Iām pretty sure there are only armored clad heroes out thereā¦
Haha, but in all seriousness, there are a few human characters thatāll Iāll likely add to my roster in the future. Some Lord of the Rings, World of Warcraft/Diablo, and likely some characters from Dark Souls/Elden Ring.
Those look great! I love what Galactic Armory is doing, they were definitely an inspiration to get me back into 3D printing for larger prints. Iām working on a Master Chief prototype 1:8 scale from Gambody right now, trying to see if that model is feasible for large scale printing. I think it would be; however, Iām not 100% sure on the pose.
I would really like the pose from the Master Chief Halo 2 Mountain Dew statue promotion, since ultimately thatās what drove me to print him.
Just wanted to say thanks to @lildobber13 for the inspiration of this topic. I have started my own project with a life-size model from Gambody. Long way to go! Lots of sanding to do now, then the painting, the electronics and finally the hardest part which is sneaking it into the house! It is 6ft 2In in height and has been printed using 2 Bambu X1Cs.
Thank you. LOL. I do like the yellow. It is the filler primer spray I have used. The chest is the hollow version of the model as I thought that would make it easier to fit to electronics. I am thinking about using a round LCD touchscreen for the Arc reactor. Which is why that part is sticking out as it is removable. That said I am a newbie with electronics so that may be a challenge.
That is awesome, I have not ventured to start priming/painting mine yet. To be fair, Iām taking the nerdy approach and using projectors to shine colors on it, similar to how Disney creates faces on animatronics now (granted I say nerdy, when I really mean I hate painting, and Iām lazy).
How was the hollow model? Iām starting a new project soon and I was thinking about going that route, I am assuming it also used far less filament and took much less time?
Iām excited to see the electronic progress, Iām also a newbie there, at least with soldering/circuits/etc.
Hi. Will update on the what I do with the electronics. Re the model. The one I got from Gamebody can with 2 versions of the chest and head. The second version was called āHollowā and I used these. It helped reduce filament use but also weight at the top of the model so less chance of it toppling over before I print the base.
The whole thing took around 3 weeks to print with 2 X1Cs. It wasnāt constant printing and I lost a few days cause one of the printers needed a new extruder.
Hope that helps.
