I have seen videos and read quite a few great stories provided by people trying to get the most out of their new all in one toy.
It always seems to start with something in the area of “Look what my new printer can do…”…
Engraving some leather wallet with a nice logo and text…
Giving the top surface of a print a nice ‘laser polish’ by literally melting it…
Cutting out plywood ornaments…
Using marker spray to engrave on metals…
Cutting out stickers…
…
More often than not I started shaking my head before having made it through the intro LOL
Even otherwise reputable channels like Adam Savage’s Tested on Youtube highlight the VINYL cutting options.
Vinyl releases chloride based fumes, which with moisture in the air form acid - a big no go for laser cutters if you value your investment.
There is laser alternatives for stickers and I won’t say these guys did not use them - but no one ever mentioned having paid the extra for laser rated sticker materials…
But hey! Who cares how quickly you ruin your expensive printer by using the laser in ways you shouldn’t…
Bambu offers all the spares you need…
Ok, you got that message a long time ago and know that you can only use plastics rated for laser use…
But what about the other hyped feature - actually cutting things to build something with them, like plywood???
As you can see no all is golden in the Bambu advertising world…
While that video shows sort of an extreme it still is valid for even the smallest of laser engraving/cutting jobs…
Bambu utterly failed to address the issue that there enclosure is impossible to clean without taking the entire printer apart.
The airflow handling is clearly not up to the task either as there is more areas where air accumulates fumes and dust on surfaces than transporting them out.
Seriously! What good is a laser in a printer if you are limited to the cleanest possible materials and then still face the impossibility of cleaning the machine properly ?
I rather buy a cheap and much faster desktop laser of same size, do the manual calibration and if in doubt throw the thing out once cleaning it becomes impossible thanks to corrosion from cutting vinyl stickers.
Less than 150 bucks to replace the affected hardware, including a new cover window for the laser lens…
Maybe one day people will stop falling for advertising and hypes created by paid content providers offering a well biased review…

Yes, it IS an expensive hobby, no matter how you approach it.
But with a good printer and a half decent laser engraver still being much cheaper than the H2D …
I’ve been around since the first days of 3D printing made possible on a hobby level.
For me seeing such a versatile printer being demolished by a laser addon and IMHO very misleading advertising just isn’t right.
An enclosed printer is better than an open frame - same for a laser engrave/cutter.
But one should exclude the other…
The above video is probably one of the worst cases of ongoing cleaning neglect ever.
On the other hand it shows the problems users will have to fight when using their laser for some real world jobs.
When I was still using my old CO2 cutter a lot I also had to do a lot of cleaning.
Of course I also had to try some not so suited materials, like plywood and MDF from the hardware store rather than laser rated alternatives.
Vinyl other plastics releasing acidic or toxic stuff I also tried but stopped during the first cut when seeing the black smoke going everywhere.
My concerns started when I noticed troubles with my exhaust fan system.
I used a large volume inline fan for hydroponics use that had a metal housing.
The thing was FILTHY!
Was smart enough to take it outside and to do the cleaning in front of my old leaf blower to not get the dust all over me.
Two days later I noticed the bush that copped the blow while cleaning was starting to die off - literally burned to death by the morning dew turning the dust into $%^&*@…
These days I try my best to only user laser rated materials but even those produce smoke and dust.
Would I buy a H2D combo?
Probably not while Bambu keeps up the useless auth system but even without it and a cheaper price I would not get the laser addon.
For me there is no logic in ruining an otherwise fine printer by covering it with all sorts of soot and dust in impossible to clean areas…
Just to be clear the vinyl that Bambu is selling is NOT meant to be cut with the laser. It says it on the listing. It’s made for the cutting blade. If you cut vinyl with the laser the gas it releases isn’t just corrosive but dangerous to breath too. The cutting blade is what’s meant to cut stickers also.

Well, that is at least one good thing Bambu did 
But as said, there is a lot of people on the net showing how to laser cut or engrave all sorts of things, including their prints.
I hope people know what they are doing and use the right materials.
On the other hand there is this new faith system called the internet > If it is on the internet than it has to be true and it has to work…
Don’t get me wrong, the H2D is a great machine and very versatile.
Maybe a bit on the complicated side for the maintenance and repairs but what can you do if it is full of things…
My only concern if you wanna call it that is with the laser…
For me it is almost painful to see the video above and to think about the nightmare of turning this printer back to specs.
And when saw posts where people want to replace the laser rated door for a clear one to see better what’s happening inside I knew that logic and common sense are just not that common any more…
The H2D is quite limited size wise if I compare it to my 1 X 1m laser cutter.
But engraving and cutting out some Easter decorations from a 60 X 90cm sheet probably equals to about 10 rounds in a H2D.
Last time I had the machine running for just over 5 hours to engrave and cut about 40 ornaments, coasters and such using 3mm laserply.
My neighbour knocked after about 3 hours to ask if I am burning something I might not be aware of LOL
I don’t even want to know how the inside of a H2D would look like after just 40 engraved and cut coaster or such…
Might be just me though but I can’t wait to see the first video showing how something as filthy as above turns back into a clean printer and how long it takes.

My favorite laser safety saying:
“Do not stare into laser beam with remaining eye.”
If putting something optically clear between your eyes and the laser beam, make sure the laser’s color / wavelength will be blocked by the material. Might also want it to be shatterproof (especially if whatever you are laser cutting catches fire) and non-flammable.
For an infrared or ultraviolet laser, especially above a certain power level (500mW?), what I have read is that your blink reflex will not save you – there will NOT be a flash of visible light. You will find out that your eye(s) have been damaged by part of your visual field going blank, or the popping sounds as your eye tissue is being cooked and the fluids boil. I.e. too late to save your sight.
Figure out how to be safe first, THEN mess with lasers. Installed, working replacement eyeballs are hard to come by.
To be fair, this is basically a industrial-lite product. Treating it as anything less would be a mistake. Dropping 2k+ on what someone perceives to be a toy… well nothing surprises me in this day and age!

Still has to be cleaned after cutting. If it’s meant to be at all industrial, that means durable and maintainable.
Sort of my point as well.
2k for a hobby machine is nothing these days - I know people spending more than that on their yearly drone upgrades…
If the H2D is meant to be for pro use than I really wonder how using the laser a lot translates here.
And if it is more like a gimmick I have to wonder about the intentions here.
Does this laser even have a proper air assist for cutting things?
Any directional airflow systems to PREVENT the accumulation of bad things in areas as good as possible?
A way to protect what’s vital while using the laser?
Nope… At least from what I could see in sales ads…
So it is very far away from being a proper industrial/pro laser system and equally far away away from being cheap enough to be disposable or fixable by quickly replacing parts.
A half baked solution with questionable real life use - for me that is…
Anyone here able to shed some insights on the real life experience with the laser and cutting/engraving things ?

As a long time laser cutter owner, I have said in other threads that making a 3D printer that is also a laser cutter is, IMO, a bad idea. Laser cutters generate a surprising amount of “swarf”, small particulate produced when the laser beam blasts in to whatever it’s cutting (doesn’t matter what it is, wood and plastic both generate particulate). And if you’re cutting plastic or wood, they also generate gasses that will gum up the mechanics over time, also acting as a glue for all the particulate that’s being generated.
Not to mention the optics that the printer uses. My X1C’s Lidar starts to complain after only maybe 10 hours or so of printing with ABS. The laser is going to produce tons more contaminate. I have to think the optics are going to suffer.
So if you actually do any significant laser cutting of wood or plastic, I think you’re going to be cleaning your mechanics a lot more often and you’re going to be cleaning your optics a lot more often.
IMO the H2D with laser is a case of “just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should do something”. If you want to laser cut, there are many inexpensive diode laser options on the market now. Machines specifically designed for laser cutting.
The Pen/Drag Knife is a good idea, though.

Still no dust. Dont cut cardboard or wood. Pretty simple. Abs fumes cause a film buildup also. I would buy a standalone laser but would rather use that space for more printers. I lost no space, but gained a laser cutter, drag knife and pen plotter. I would hope nobody bought an h2d to cut wood all day.

If I need to cut out things I’ll either use hand tools, a small band saw or a sharp blade depending on the materials.
Or I can use my small 2.5D CNC mill, it’s very accurate and can manage to cut and shape materials up to a few cms thick in metals and wood.
For cutting vinyl I have a blade type cutter that gives sharp edges and doesn’t try to kill me with toxic fumes. Mostly used for making etching masks.
I have a 3D printer that’s exclusively used for errr 3D printing.
