To be fair, throughout, you have come across as someone who is complaining about something one seems to know little to nothing about.
By all indications the exclusive program is an effort to encourage designers to create more sophisticated models. One of my greatest complaints of the 3D printing world is that much of what is printed, much of what appears on model depositories, tends to be of dubious quality. Bambu printers are of such a quality that it is possible to create complex assemblies with great precision. Things that are of as high a quality or higher quality than can be found in a store.
Personally I have created models that can only be printed on Bambu Lab printers. That is to say many of my designs are exclusive to Bambu Lab Printers as other brands lack the necessary capabilities to print those models. By adding in CyberBricks and laser cutting abilities, that exclusivity only grows stronger.
Good idea, Impossible to enforce. People would never be willing to hand over their ID, be that to a Chinese company considering data concerns. If they go with the route of inputting your birthday when you open an account, people are just going to lie.
Oh of course that’s what anyone with a moderate level of intelligence has been doing for decades when it comes to age verification. I’m speaking of the ones who proudly put it in their profile, model descriptions, and daily postings.
I’m really very new to all this so if I am off base, kindly let me know.
I found a very nice plant pot. But it did not have drainage holes in the bottom nor a drain pan, so I made the holes in the pot, and created a matching drain pan. Yet I have not uploaded this because I think variants should be allowed to be uploaded to the original design. Not as a new design, but a variant of the original. I honestly don’t give a damn about points, or other rewards, and if someone likes my variant, I still think the points/rewards should go to the original designer.
So my suggestion is that MakerWorld allow variants of a model to be listed with the original model, not as a separate model. Wouldn’t that alleviate some of the problems?
As it stands now, I see an original model and then a gazillion variants, all from different contributors. I would love to NOT see all those variants unless I like the original design, then I can look at the original listing and see the variants.
What you had is a remix, not a variant. If the license of the original model allows remix then you can published as so, and give credit to the original model in the model description if credit is required by the license.
