My new model downloads 0 but 2 prints, what?

Title says it all, I uploaded a new model have 0 downloads but 2 printed. what is going on here?
I know it printed because I have a comment from it.
Who do you go to when you want answers?

The prints can come from people using Handy (maybe Studio too but not sure) to print which is different from using a browser to download the model. One print counts the same as two downloads. With two prints you should have 4 points from that model.

If someone prints directly from Bambu Handy it will only show up as a print without a “download” since it was sliced directly from Bambu cloud

It is also worth knowing that not all downloads or prints are counted.

Bambu Lab shared this information some time ago and the specific cut off points may have changed since.

  • Overall activity caps

    If a user has downloaded or printed five things already today and they then download or print your model, it will nit increment the relevant counter as only the first 5 activities are counted per user.

  • Quantity caps

    If a user downloads or prints your model more than once, only the first instance is counted and even if they print one thousand, only one will be counted.

There are many of these ‘gotchas’ where the honest activity and popularity of your model will simply be ignored.

We have been told they are used to limit ‘bad actors’ who farm points (attempt to gain points illegitimately), yet there are other ways this could have been achieved to prevent or reduce such activities.

The real reason is the desire by Bambu Lab to limit the monetary or points return given to designers who provide their models free of charge to the community so that Bambu Lab can have significant marketing abilities to sell their printers to the next people.

Their countermeasures to limit point farmers and cheaters are always targeting everybody.
They never do things like ban, give point penalties, remove models from the cheating accounts. The only actions they take on reports are eventually:

  • removing unrelated models from the contests (w/out point penalties);
  • removing print profiles when the supposed photos of the print is blatantly AI. If they tell chatgpt to draw some print lines in the picture, however erratic and unrealistic, reports get dismissed mostly.

I think this disadvantages models with longer print times. When I have multiple prints scheduled in a day, I usually place the largest one at the end of the queue; overnight, during dinner, or at another convenient time.

OK, I did not know that but it makes perfect sense. Most of my models are over 5 hours. I gust I’m boosting Bambu more than they’re boosting me.
