Previously my poops have been long and curly and kind of spiral up into a tube but now there coming out all squiggly and erratic and causing my chute to get clogged.
I’ve been trying to do a long 4 colour print (2 days and 5 hours) and my chute just keeps backing up, until the print head hits it causing it to become misaligned and ruining my print. This has happened several times now and I can’t work out how to fix it.
As I say, previously my poops coiled up in a nice looking tube which slid down the chute without incident however now things have got a lot more erratic:
Note the flap in the chute works fine, and generally speaking the wiper I have installed does it’s job. This issue is simply with the poops just not dropping down as they should.
As I say, my poops use to curl up into a nice looking tube but now for some reason they tend to spray all over the place (for want of a better description) and I just can’t work out why. This is happening with Bambu’s basic PLA, and the filament does come out the nozzle in a nice smooth flow. I even tried a cold pull to see if that would help but everything cam out clean and there was no improvement.
Any idea what’s going on here because this is driving me crazy!
I’d try two things - do a few cold pulls on the nozzle(s) and make sure the nozzle end doesn’t have some brunt filament that could be altering the flow causing it to do that. If you have a spare nozzle change it as a test.
As it is the filament seems to flow pretty smooth so I don’t think it’s a clogged nozzle. However I have tried a few cold pulls and was disappointed to see the filament came out clean and it didn’t help with the problem.
I have just tried cleaning out the nozzle with the pin tool and will see if this makes a difference. I’m not that hopeful but we’ll see.
And it seems that when the poop gets caught in the chute it actually gets hung up on the front edge of that chute. Is it possible that my print head has somehow moved forwards a little? I can’t imagine how that would happen but it might explain it:
Just out of curiosity, When the nozzle excretes down the chute is it meant to be positioned “over the middle of the bowl” as it were, because you can see in my photos posted above my printer is basically “sitting on the rim”:
There was a change to Bambu Studio at some point this year that modified the purge movement to create “looser” purges, rather than the very dense ones before, to try to reduce instances of purge sticking to the side of the chute.
You can absolutely change the purge behavior in the printer profile gcode section of Bambu Studio, you’ll just need the old code to insert back in there.
The location of the calibration lines seems to indicate the hot end is slightly bent. I am assuming the buld plate is located correctly on the print bed. Try a different one
Well, I pulled the hotend out and sure enough there was a slight but noticeable kink in the shaft. Fortunately I was able to bend it back to straight just using my hands and after putting it back together check out this ripper of a nugget:
