I wonder if you can help me solve this. I have been trying to decide if I would get the Vortek upgrade kit to upgrade my H2D to an H2C. When testing different recent models of mine in the slicer to see print time differences, I noticed a very odd case where the H2C is estimated to take 16% longer than an H2D when all other variables are the same. That setting is… if ironing of top surfaces is turned on? Yeah.. I wasn’t expecting that one either. So when ironing is turned on in the print profile, the H2C takes 16% longer than the H2D. This scales with print time (or more accurately, scales with the area of the ironed surfaces), and I can’t come up with any explanation for it. This is on a single color print with basic geometry. Think a rectangular prism with Z-axial corner lines filleted. This adds more than an hour to what used to be a 7 hour print of a few of these objects.
Has anyone noticed this, heard of this, or have any explanation for this? Might it be a software bug with the time estimation or the gcode generation itself? It certainly wouldn’t be a flow rate issue as flow is lower when ironing, wouldn’t be an issue of going too fast during print/ironing moves, because ironing move+extrudes go much slower than regular move+extrudes, and I wouldn’t think any of the travel moves in between extrusions would be any slower than on the H2D since that wasn’t an issue before ironing was turned on?

well… what’s your ironing speed say it is in the slicer, for each machine?
They were both set to the same defaults in the slicer. If you’re also interested in getting to the bottom of this, open your slicer and try it yourself with an object primitive.
you’ve got the correct mix of hardware loaded up, i’ll let you take the look. X2d default is 30mm/s
On a stock “0.10mm Standard” print profile, H2C defaults ironing speed to 20mm/s, the H2D to 30mm/s. Bottom located. I don’t know why the default is lower on C.

PS. that particular profile is only for 0.2mm nozzle (apparently what I had selected in the slicer at the time, but hadn’t noticed). As noted in a followup post, this setting could easily vary between preset profiles, eg. “High Quality” vs “Standard”.

Yeah that would be my guess as well. As a generalization, if I want nicer surfaces and accuracy from my H2C I will lower the default speed and acceleration settings. For example, just from presets, the only difference between the H2C “0.16mm High Quality” and “Standard” profiles are some lowered speed and accel. properties in the former (and ironing speed
).
Of possible interest/note when comparing printers is that they don’t all have matching profiles… for example 0.08mm Extra Fine @BBL H2D isn’t the same as 0.08mm High Quality @BBL H2C and there’s no corresponding equivalent (eg. “Extra Fine @ H2C” or “High Quality @ H2D”). The “Extra Fine” profile modifies considerably more speed/accel. properties.
