I have designed a model bicycle rack canopy which i want to print. I have tried a lot of different options but one piece of the print keeps messing up.
The problem i run into is that the edge where the supports connect aren’t clean. Some points of the edge are clean (enough) but there are also a lot of rough area’s where it looks like there are pieces taken out of the print.
I have tried a variety of different options but cannot seem to get this edge clean.
I have played around with the support settings, the print line thicknes and speed / fan configurations but nothing seems to work. Some parts of this area are printed perfect so the printer is capable of it. Attached is my 3MF file. Does anyone have any tips on how i will be able to print this design?
I personally think you should separate that element and attach it after printing.
Otherwise, support material. That should help give a much cleaner bottom to those spots. Even with supports, it has to have some clearance to make it easy to remove. With a specific support material, you’ll be able to print directly onto it, and get a much nicer bottom. It may not be as clean as printing directly on the plate, but it should be cleaner than doing supports without a specific support material.
By support material, I mean something like one of these offerings. You’d just set it as the interface layer, and it’d reduce the clearances to 0!
Thanks for the help. I have tried to print the item separate and that works for the problem area but for some reason when printing it separate the supports that normally print ok are then printed much worse.
You’re idea of another support material might work, does this have so much effect?
