First print using the AMS on the right nozzle went perfectly. Today it was time to do a full test including the left nozzle, so unboxed the AMS HT, loaded in the PLA, and proceeded to try and print a 3 color benchy to test things. Fail. The left side cutter pin apparently isn’t moving to the correct position.
Ok. Go follow the help topic which takes me to a guide that indicates such issues may arise from shipping/unboxing. My guess shipping given the hole in outer box I saw. In any case , “rack” , according to the guide , should be fully flush inside when the pin is pointing toward the front of the printer.
If not one should push back on the rack while moving the pin toward the back to allow the rack to skip and be repositioned.
Give it a try. I can get the rack a bit back but no way fully back. Neither the left nor the right rack will to fully back. Hrmm.
So now the racks are not moving the pin back at all via the print head. Crap.
I’m looking are the next step in the guide - fully removing the cutting pin rack assembly from the printer to check and set it correctly. Joy. Day two of the new printer isn’t the experience I was expecting.
I ran into this early on with my H2S. I had inadvertently bumped the filament cutter plunger out of position. It was only 3(?) screws to take it off and adjust it back. Wasnt too bad. Just make sure the head is in the home position before re-installing or you will be back in the same spot.
Yeah I’m not sure how it happened. For me it was a much bigger issue to fix. 4 screws on each pin assembly. 2 pin assemblies for the H2D.
Then the screws are tiny and black on a black background at the back of the printer. The left one partially obscured by the chamber heating panel. And my printer is set on a counter so it’s higher up. But I got it done.
In the end I needed to disconnect all the AMS and lay the printer on its side. That gave me enough visibility through the open top to see and get the screw out and eventually back in.
For others that may end up here, this is what the rack looked like after having done the Bambu recommended in-printer adjustment , which for me ended up setting the racks more out of alignment. I’m not sure if I just didn’t do the in place adjustment correct or if the adjustment instructions are wrong.
Then this is what I aligned them to , which is the goal of the alignment process given with the racks removed, an it is the other sides rack. Key is the teeth in the tip of the gear at the pin end being engaged with the very first tooth in the upper rack.
That got me able to print the 3 color benchy successfully. However I noticed the left print head is slightly out of alignment based on where that singular color (white) in the finished 3 color benchy. Assuming it’s from me moving and laying on its side of the printer, to work the pin racks for the cutter.
So now I’ve reseated the nozzles, cleaned the alignment sensor, and its back to a full calibration and optical alignment and doing another test 3 color benchy to verify the dual nozzle and filament changing work correctly.
Glad you got it fixed. I couldn’t remember the exact number of screws. I have bad news for you though… if you thought that was a pain to fix, wait until you have to do surgery on the print head. Serviceability is not in Bambu’s dictionary.
the full recalibration and reseating of nozzle did the trick. The change from left (white) to right (black green) nozzle is now smooth and even (left print) vs the first try yesterday (right print) . If anything the black green changes via the ams are the ones one can feel most. This is to be expected.
Well so long as there is a procedure and it is reliable and works in good. A better design that doesn’t slow the cutter pin racks to get misaligned so easily would be prefered. Hopefully additional service will be limited to well down the road past day 3, with print 3 on the H2D.
Technically I’ve got no issues with the service. For me it’s just my own limitations from : printer at counter height , me being 58 and eyesight and fine motor skills no longer what they were. But I can make it work.
That would help a bit in putting it all back together again. But it’s strictly not necessary as the instructions from Bambu here are pretty easy to follow. The one tricky bit is the aligning of the gear with the correct of two holes for the printer.
