New problems with P2S

Have you rolled the firmware back on your p2s? Has that fixed your issue?

have spent 4 full days trying to troubleshoot the exact same issue (or seemingly exact)

Here is my long story and keep in mind I still have not resolved the issue, but I have found some interesting things, especially the fan speeds that were wrong from the last studio update. I am having an incredibly difficult time finding helpful information online because every discussion turns into plate cleaning arguments. I literally have no idea what to try next besides throwing the machine away.

June 14th

  • Random failed print, about 75% through. Object broke in half (not away from plate) spaghetti everywhere. Tried to pull remaining object off bed, could not do it with hands.

  • Cleaned nozzle, performed calibration

  • Tried re-print. Failed at layer 3. Spaghetti everywhere.

  • Cleaned bed plate (yes soap, yes normal dawn, never IPA, yes microfiber cloth. Same routine since day 1)

  • printed different object (50x50x50 cube) using different filament. Failed around 20% and blob of death, the partial cube was stuck to nozzle.

  • Replaced nozzle with factory new

  • Calibrated

  • Cleaned hot end

  • reprinted object. Success

  • Changed to original filament and print. Success

  • Went back to target object. Failed at 90%

June 15th

  • Full PM, all rods, all lead screws, checked every belt, checked extruder and re-lubed

  • Calibrated

  • Tried print. watched first 10-15 layers, no warp no lift. Failed at around 60%. This time spaghetti everywhere but object still in place and a blob on end of nozzle (not a huge one)

  • Inspected print, no gouging, no layer separation or shifting

  • Cold pull nozzle. Inspected pull, no debris re-cleaned nozzle again

  • calibrated

  • flow dynamics calibration (resulted in no change in values)

  • flow rate calibration (resulted in same k factor as prior)

  • re-print. Success print

  • Thought I solved the problem

  • Updated studio to 02.07.01.62

  • Updated P2S firmware to 01.02.00.00

  • Updated AMS2 Pro firmware to 04.00.21.87 (buffer tube 01.01.16.19)

June 16-17th

  • new object printed successfully
  • Next print failed at 30%
  • Cleaned plate
  • retried. Success.
  • Went back to the object that still failed from day before. Failed at layer 2.

1. Checked every PTFE tube - all perfect condition

2. Took apart extruder - perfect condition still, re-lubed

3. AMS2 fully checked- rollers, bearings, PTFE tubes, Boden connectors, each slot’s gears –All good

  1. Re-inspected all belts
  2. Nozzle tip under microscope, no damage
  3. Grabbed another new spool, dried it for 12 hours

June 19-20th

  • Tried to print again. Failed at around 10% object stuck to plate could not remove with hands
  • Let cool down and removed object. No visible extrusion anomalies. No gouges or nicks.
  • Cleaned plate again
  • tried printing my Benchy
  • Failed
  • Cried

Today June 22

  • Full teardown and inspection. Looking for fibers, dust, anything. All good.

  • Re-print Benchy and watched with full focus and noticed the machine fans seemed louder than I remembered.

  • Went to my PC to look at the Aux Fan, it was on at 100% (usually 70%). It should have been off during inital layers but it was checked on. I thought that was odd

  • Looked at the filament profile (Bambu PLA default FYI) and saw initial layer fan at 0% and right AUX fan at 100% which is not right, it should be 40% and 70% by default

  • Created a new Bambu PLA filament profile with the initial at 40% and aux fan at 70% (defaults because you can’t edit the stock ones)

  • Ran Flow Rate calibration - success all the way through

  • Ran 50x50x50 cube - success all the way through

  • Realized the fans were the cause, so I reverted back to studio version 02.05.00.66

  • Reverted back all firmware

  • Looked at the filament profiles and yup they were correct again

  • Ran a benchy - failed at 40%. Still stuck to plate and spaghetti

  • Ran another benchy on other side of plate (still not printed on since last clean). Failed at initial layer

  • Bumped up bed temp by 10° (at 65°) and ran benchy - failed at 20%, lifted from bed, stuck to nozzle, spaghetti everywhere

  • Changed the filament profile to 0% fan on first 3 layers

  • Print benchy - Failed at 10%

  • Cleaned plate again, re-printed and immediately blobbed during purge at beginning of run

  • I re-checked every screw with the hex keys in case one was loose. No loose screws found.

Only printed Bambu PLA (two I tried were PLA and different colors, one was PLA matte, all were dried to 7%)

I don’t run any custom profiles; everything is stock and has been this way for the entire 790 hours I’ve owned this machine.

I have failures at initial layers, nearly complete without adhesion loss, nearly complete with adhesion loss. It’s like I have both adhesion and extrusion problems where one occurs but not the other, and sometimes together, and sometimes the other way around.

And that’s where I am now. Completely stuck with no clue what to try next. I know I am forgetting some other things I did but it’s difficult to remember since I wasn’t planning on keeping a diary.

That’s really a horrible experience. I looked through the things you already tried. I think you haven’t tested yet for my last idea:

So in other words, maybe the extrusion temperature is lower than the machine thinks, causing occasional underextrusion.

To test, I would suggest a max flow rate test as I posted here:

Just one more idea, but it might be suitable to explain your and the OP’s problems.

Thank you so much for your help. I am willing to try anything new or even twice! I am going to factory reset and completely wipe Bambu studio from my system, then once I get back up and running, I will follow this recommendation.

Couple questions for you,

P2S doesn’t have a “max flowrate” calibration (that I know of). There is only “Flow Dynamics”, which sets the pressure advance (K Factors) and a “Flow Rate”. This might be a verbiage technicality, but do you know if the ‘flow rate’ test is the same as your ‘max flowrate’?

The P2S flowrate prints multiple rectangles/coupons and shows varying level of under-extrude to over-extrude, and then you pick the smoothest surface.

I noticed in your test there are 3 boxes, start volumetric Speed, End Volumetric Speed, and Steps. This isn’t present in the P2S Flow Rate Test.

You will want to look at the Manual section because P2S does not have an auto calibration option for this test (they haven’t made one yet).

Ahh, my mistake! If you look closely at my screenshot, I have an extra calibration menu above the regular menu options. The regular calibration menu is further to the right.

I should have mentioned that I have developer mode enabled in the preferences. Probably that lets appear that extra menu. Sorry for missing that!

I having issues since last Friday with my P2S. Pretty much same issues as you guys. Turbo have you figured out and fix your issue? I have no clue anymore what to do. Have the printer only 2 mobths 380 hours printed and everything was printing perfectly and suddenly the machine is just a piece of waste filaments. Have done everything calibrations, washes, temp changes etc..

Hey everyone, just wanted to update you all on this issue. I opened a ticket with Bambu, and they (at first) determined that my heat bed was bad. They sent out a new heat bed, and after I saw what a chore it was to replace, I initially pushed back, saying that I do not feel comfortable doing major surgery on my printer that is still under warranty. The heat bed replacement is not as easy as lets say a set of extruder gears, or nozzle, or sensor.

A new support rep chimed in and asked me to do a resistance test on the MC board, which came back “normal”, so they then determined that my AC board was defective, and sent me a new AC board. This replacement was not as bad as a heat bed replacement, but still no walk in the park.

Unfortunately, this did not fix my issue. At that time, I requested an exchange for my P2S, and after my ticket was escalated, they agreed to exchange my P2S. I have sent mine back, and awaiting its arrival for their inspection so they can send me my new P2S. My original issue will never be known.

I appreciate every ones help during all of this!

Same here mate. They check my logs and apparently there’s a instability issue with some sensors and they are asking me to open the printer and check MC and AC connections plug and unplug. My printer is not even 3 months old and only 380 hours of work. I did not agree to do this. Let’s see what they will reply me back.

Checking the connections on the boards is one thing, but replacing them is a whole different story. Good luck to you! Let me know how your journey turns out.

Just wanted to give everyone an update, and some closure (kinda). My P2S was replaced by Bambu, and I finally received the new machine yesterday. I have put 10 hours on it so far, PETG and PLA, and it has been great.

Thank you for everyone who has helped out during this process! I really do wish I was able to find out what was wrong with my original P2S, for my own closure! It only had 800 hours on it!
