New to Bambu - H2S

Good day to you all out there in the world of 3D printing. I have come here to ask a question I couldn’t find the answer to.

Can I connect an external filament to my H2S while I have the AMS 2with 4 colours?

I noticed on the H2S there are 2 filament inputs, like the H2D, but I wasn’t sure why, what I could with it or how to use it if I could. I can add pictures if needed, but If anyone has any ideas, I would be grateful.

I don’t own a BBL H2S yet, but will likely order one soon.

For non-TPU I would mount a 4-in-1-PTFE adapter on the back side. If you have multiple AMS you need this anyway. And I think it is also the way to go for external spools.
For TPU there is the recommendation to dismount the internal PTFE tube from the buffer and feed the TPU from the other opening: TPU 85A&90A printing guide for H2 series | Bambu Lab Wiki

Yeah, its a bit strange, as it is not really obvious how to do it. There is one input that goes into the PTFE tube to the print head - mainly for using with the AMS 2 Pro and then there is another hole in the back for feeding in TPU and presumably the external spool.

This is what the diagram in Bambu Studio looks like, which is not really helping at all:

It makes it look like the AMS and External spool both go into the print head, but the print head only has one filament input.

You use a 4in1 splitter at the entry point of the H2S and connect both PTFE coming from AMS and external spool to that splitter. When the filament of the AMS is unloaded, you simply push in the filament from the external spool all the way to the hotend and then you can print with it without disconnecting everything. For tpu though you’ll have to insert it on the dedicated port of the printer.

The second input (one below the main one) doesn’t do anything. The H2S is based off the H2D body apparently so they just left it on there.

I recommend using one 4-to-1 PTFE splitter for each input—one for the standard buffered input and one for the bypass. I run a 4-to-1 on the bypass because I sometimes route four AMS HT units through it, keeping them all connected at once. It may be overkill, but it saves me from moving spools when I decide to dry some filament while printing something else.

With an AMS HT on bypass, you can dry while printing: the printer treats the AMS HT as empty during bypass, so it continues drying while the job runs. I use this routinely for TPU to keep it bone-dry for the entire print.

Important: if you’re using the AMS HT via the bypass and drying at the same time, do not enable spool rotation—that will cause issues.
