Is it best to just select “Generic” for any filament other than Bambu when printing with P2S?
That is a great place to start and if you are happy with how a test print comes out you will likely be happy with the results especially with PLA and PETG. You will occasionally not find something like Generic PLA Wood; Use the Bambu (profiles) PLA Wood in those situations. I regularly use Generic for PLA and PETG, I also use Bambu’s profiles with some 3rd party filaments without issues.
I usually run the Auto Calibration with 3rd party filaments.

Me personally i have just used bambu profiles for non bambu filament and it worked out just fine. Only thing i tweak is the volumetric speed.

I will check 1) The filament manufacturer and 2) Maker world to see if actual profiles exist for your filament.
Failing that, I will usually select the Bambu equivalent of the filament, or “generic”.
I’ve never had to do any other fiddling, one of those options always works for me.

Early last year BBL began presets for filaments (Sunlu, Polymaker, eSun & overture) which worked with P1S. I don’t see these available for P2S but in fairness the P2S wasn’t out at that time. So far I’ve used BBL setting which have worked well so far.
The standard Bambu settings work great for their filaments and most others too. Most large manufacturers publish the settings for their filaments. eSun for example have Bambu Lab files ready to download.
