I just started printing with PETG a couple weeks ago. I really like it. It almost has a molded feel.
So far the projects I’ve used it on are okay with the glossy look.
But, how do I make it matte? I’m already printing at 200-300mm/sec. If I speed it up more won’t I start to get quality issues? Do I need to change fan settings?
What filament are you using? PETG will usually be glossy, unless you specifically purchase Matte PETG.
Bambu PETG-HF (if you can get it) is semi-matte. The gray and dark blue and dark green are some of my favorite filaments.
Oh okay. When I checked Bambu site for PETG Matte and didn’t see it, I figured it wasn’t a thing.
What speed changes do you make for the PETG HF? I see it has a volumetric rate of 21.
There is no specific Bambu PETG Matte. At standard settings a somewhat-matte finish is just a characteristic their PETG-HF while the newer PETG Basic seems to have a glossier finish.
Generally, printing hot and fast leans toward glossy and cool and slow is more matte. You can also experiment with cooling fan speed and outer wall speeds but in my experience at least the differences can be subtle without getting into extremes that would be a detriment to the overall print quality.
Sunlu has a high-speed matte PETG at a pretty good price.
3D-Fuel makes a nice PCTG (stronger than PETG but similar) in matte black. And they have a dedicated print profile for Bambu machines that you can download.
Yep, the SunLu high-speed Matte PETG has been working great for me, and comes in quite a few colors.
When these filaments say high speed, they don’t mean outer walls also at high speed do they?
