New to the H2D Pro and Bambu Overall - Problems

Greetings all… First post, newb to the BambuLabs Forums…

A little backstory here:

A few years ago, the company I work for bought a FormLabs 3L that failed miserably to the point we were provided a 4L due to the 3L’s lack of performance (breakage). We finally accepted that resin may not be the best use for us and recently (within the past 2 weeks) bought an H2D Pro.

While I am no newb to 3D printers, but I am also no expert by any stretch of the imagination. This is where I am requesting this community’s input to guide and teach me.

I ran a number of prints before attempting to move forward with test prints of parts we would actually like to use in prototyping. The printer ran well using 3rd party PLA (Pink/Blue Silky filament from MatterHackers). Ran a couple of benchies that I used a caliper to gauge accuracy on. Ran a few dragons for the ladies in the office. All printed well with minimal troubleshooting.

However, I then switched to BambuLabs ABS (silver). Ran a couple more test parts and the part fit to the pipe we plan to use was very good. I then attempted to print parts. Some issues:

  1. Prints completed, there was some random spaghetti issues.
  2. Printed on bed, the filet radii had poor quality.
  3. Wall or parts need to be solid. I am sure this has to do with infill, but I am not versed in the Bambu Studio software yet. (2 weeks in)
  4. Support trees are not assisting walls parallel to the plate to be built with quality/accuracy.

EDIT - Settings:

.04 Tungsten Carbide Hotend
.02 Layers (most detailed print setting)
Support trees (Build Plate Only)

Any help/input/feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!

  1. Spaghetti can be caused by many things, you haven’t given us enough to comment on it one way or another
  2. That radius is an overhang, it isn’t possible to print those well without support. Look into “Support for ABS” and use it in your other nozzle.
  3. If you want thicker walls increase your number of wall loops, if you want solid parts increase your infill to 100%. Both are in the strength settings.
  4. Support for ABS will fix this, in the supports setting section you’ll select that as the interface materials only, it will prompt you to let it change some other settings, let it do that.

Yeah… I just don’t have enough experience with this yet to speak to it with any authority. I should have taken pics of the plate before removing the parts.

I did forgot to mention I do have ABS Support Filament coming. This was kind of a rush/test thing.

Perfect! I will attempt to make these changes in the settings. Is there a way to create an custom (named) setting to be switched to and fro other or default settings?

One last question… What are your thoughts of rotating the part 30*, 45*, 60*?

I’d certainly consider trying 30-45-60 angles, as printing with the hose barbs parallel to the build plate may not achieve a surface good for achieving a good seal with the hose, and printing with the barbs perpendicular to the plate creates a fitting very susceptible to snapping off.

Just a kind reminder here: solid walls might not always be a good option.

If you want solid walls, I actually recommend you use resin instead.

Regardless, in both cases, solid walls can cause problems when it’s large and thick enough.

Hi Hotel… thanks for the reply…

Parts do not exceed 64mm in length. And are about 55mm in width and about 35-40 mm in height.

Walls will not exceed 2.75-3mm. Resin cannot be used for these parts as they are being used in a mock up as a prototype to a PVC version we would like to have manufactured.

ABS is the best material currently that accepts a special glue to adhere to PVC. So our team will be using PVC tubing and these ABS parts will be glued to the tubing in the mock up. Once testing has been passed, we will seek having the parts manufactured in PVC.

I may not need the walls “solid” but I definitely need them more firm/rigid than they are now.

You may also want to avoid metallic colours as they would be more brittle/soft
