Hey, @MakerWorld and @BambuLab , sense Yall just killed ratings points, I think there should be some new way to get points… I’m guessing that’s how most people got theirs. Now it’s just your models, which is impossible for most people to get a gift card, or for people that make no models have no way but the initials to get points… I feel we deserve SOME way other then models to get points… anyone agree?

First, sorry this is negative, we don’t “Deserve” a way other than models to get points.
I agree that there should be a way for casual users to get some incentive for staying on the platform, but we have also seen people abuse the rating system.
Gift cards should also not be the main goal. You should be in the game for the enjoyment of the hobby. That is why I think that they should have more redemption options like spools of filament, common parts like nozzles or plates, common maker supply items, etc.
If anything I would recommend a system that takes into account the amount of filament used when you print models from makerworld. Second option is if they brought back points for ratings but reduced the amount of points. I think an unlimited per month system with 1 to 3 points per rating is reasonable.
Lets see how this plays out. Makerworld has not released an offical statement on the matter yet.

…another way to get points. Besides, with 50 points per month, that’s almost a year before you get a gift card anyway. Is it the best decision to make points “available” to designers only; well, that’s a different question but “deserving” has nothing to do with it either way.

Is’nt the idea that the designers who spend a huge amount of time making models and offering them for free get points and rewards? The reward for the users of the platform is a huge selection of great and free designs to print… Why should the non-designers be rewarded with giftcards for getting free stuff to print?

No its not, anyone can learn basic CAD to make things, issue is most people don’t want to put effort in to getting things and would much rather just get things for free, don’t me wrong everyone loves free stuff for no work, but that sadly isn’t the world we live in

My suggestion would be to only award points for ratings that include a written review and real photos of the print. Then they could raise the monthly limit per user. This would reduce point farming, increase the number of quality ratings, and probably decrease the overall amount of points MW is handing out for ratings. There should also be a minimum filament usage for the print to qualify for a points reward.
Completely removing the incentive for leaving a rating would be bad for the platform.

if you think about it the disadvantage is for the designers, not the casual user.
the point given when rating is to motivate users to give rating and post comments and photos, which should be an advantage for the creators to have a constant feedback on their work.
take that away from users then all you will get is few reviews and you will find yourself seeing more negative reviews on your work just because a grumpy user want to vent on you with 1 star review.
here is a thing i’m sure you don’t know, casual users are not receiving boost tickets as it used to be.
here is another fact, casual users ( as a punishment ) will not receive boost tickets to give away if they previously boosted simple non complicated designs.
who do you think got affected by this?! the user or the creator?

Hi! I just rated a print profile on 10/17 and I got 3 points. I’m not sure why no one else is getting points.
I “feel” that points should go to those who spend hours, days, and weeks making things that others download and print/build.
Do you “feel” like everyone owes you a handout? For what?

I do not think that points should only be awarded to people that post models. I think it is nice to have something to work towards like a little bit of motivation to stay on makerworld.
I think wanting gift cards is a little stupid. But it is very reasonable to get some of the kits like the mouse kit using just reward points.
I think it should be considerably less than people who post, but there still should be something there.
In the big picture. 50 points is nothing. There is no reason it should be taken away

This is a business.
Models being posted here generates traffic and ‘mostly’ positive vibes for MakerWorld and by extension makes new users consider BambuLab over the competition.
It is if you are giving them away for no business benefit to thousands and thousands of people.
It was a zero effort benefit that was generous.
It is important to know or remember (if you have read my thoughts on the subject), I am apposed to the constant watering down of points.
The argument that there are more users now makes no sense as a good business puts a small percentage away from each sale towards the rewards and that pot gets bigger the more printer purchases are made.
But, this one, was always due to die and any new ones must be tied to effort, real effort.
I agree, work towards models, after all, that is what this product produces.

Every time threads like this ask MakerWorld to change the rules, we as a community suffer. The new rules would always makes points harder to get or less valuable.

There are other ways to bring people in. Why do stores run sales and give away free samples?

I think there is real effort when you are printing a ■■■■ ton of things to put ratings on. That is printing at least 10 models a month to get 50 points. That is a lot of printing for some people
As I said.
Everyone wants to get hyped up and argue about this when no one knows what actually is going to happen.
Some people are going to look real stupid next month

They do those and for the most part they are generous.
One is on right now.
If you are print to get the points you are losing money. Filament costs more than those free points would ever provide.
You should be printing because you want those things. You should review because they deserved it. You should also review that it printed successfully, nit because of any other dumb reading (not you) come up with to say “I didn’t mean to print - 3 stars” (that actually happened).
Just enjoy it, share models have designed if you wish and earn points from those. If you do not know how to design 3D, start.
I hadn’t designed anything until January 2024 and now I have shared 850 models and there are more ready to share and more I wish to design.
It is a fun hobby.
