Newbie first fail (twice in a row)

I read thru the “Start Here” on the failed-print tag, but I could not understand what to call this failure.

Used Bambu PLA with all default settings which have worked so far without issues.

After first fail which was identical to this pic, I cleaned the PEI textured plate, and the nrotated on Z-axis by 90 degrees. Same part failed, in the exact same manner.

You have a part of the print that detached from the buildplate.

You can fix this by using an “brim” or placing “mouse ears” on the small legs.

That way the small legs don’t break loose and ruin your print.

Thank you all for the excellent suggestion of adding a brim.
It almost worked.
But then this happened.

Is this an adhesion issue? Or do I need a wider (or higher/thicker?) brim?

Looks like adhesion to me but things you could try in the mean time… You don’t say how you clean but you want plain dish soap (I use thick suds) to clean with and dry with a fresh paper towel. That works for me.

Temperature on the build plate can matter too. I run 58C on my textured PEI (instead of the stock 55C) with PLA and that works well here. Adding a few degrees can help but I don’t know the upper limit. But hotter may help.

Worst case is some recommend scuffing the plate lightly. Rubbing alcohol can remove some things too but you need to flood contamination off or it can redeposit when the alcohol evaporates.

That would print fine here though. For some reason you have low adhesion overall or at least in that location since the other leg seems to stay in place. Maybe there’s a fingerprint or light spot of grease there.

But a wider brim might get you past the issue if none of this actually fixes it.

DId the following and problem solved:

  • Wider Brim (10mm)
  • Rotated the piece to avoid potentially problematic spot on the plate.
  • Changed infill to gyroid to avoid crossing lines.
