Newbie here. My first 3 color project surprised me.
All filaments are Bambu Lab PLA Basic. A1, was black, A2, orange, A3, was empty and A4, was white.
I wanted the base to be all white so I painted it completely white. 4.5 hours later only the upper surface of the base was white but every other part of the base was black and the white top did not cover the black very well. I had assumed it defaulted to black (A1) at the time then painted white on the upper surface. White and orange did not cover black very well at all. I have much to learn!
I am in the process of a redo so I exchange black and white filaments so A1 has white filament loaded and A4 now has black. But, after reloading my project and moving into Preview it still indicates black as the base color even though A1 is now white.
First off, why are you skipping over the #3 slot?
How did you paint the model? There are multiple ways of doing that. I do it by first using the Height range option. Then I will swap to the circle option.
One thing you have to do is rotate the model through all the different axes as there will be areas that get missed during the height range process and those are what I tweak with the circle style brush.
I would set model white in the A1 slot because that seems to be the primary color of the object. Since the side against the build plate is supposed to be white, if you put white in the first slot it will default the model to white in its entirety so you just need to paint black and orange.
Since you found the synchronize toggle, be aware that lots of models that you download will have the models original AMS setup configured so when you import the model to Studio it may bring the originating configurating with it and you will have to do a snchronizing of your AMS right from the start.
The P1s is new. I’ve only printed some test prints until now. I’m handicapped with a muscle disease so my fingers lack strength. When filling the third filament I could not press the button enough to feed the filament but did succeed in A4. I have since corrected this and only have three installed. White in A1, Orange in A2 and Black in A3. The reason I posted was Bambu Studio didn’t recognize the filament order changes until I read how to Synchronize filaments from AMS.

I had to run for a while with one of the slots on one of my AMS units idle because I had an issue with a bearing in one of the primary feeders. I was just checking to make sure there was no problem with the AMS.
One thing I would recommend as much as you can manage is to buy some spare parts in the event something breaks.
As far as I know, BL does not offer any expedited parcel delivery so if a part goes kaput such that it takes your printer down, it takes a while for the part to be delivered. Many of the parts are reasonably priced which allows one to buy spares.
